He has ever-optimistic personality and silly, it's always impossible to hate him (imo)
He also had goofy barks like "Now Minsc is leader, swords for everyone!"
BG2, he got a bit more buff and was notably loyal in a game where companions would leave in a huff if you pressed their buttons. It was quite easy early game to get a couple of +3 axes and a greatsword which he could use well enough. And by mid-end game he was a threshing machine with them. Oh yeah, there was an undead slaying throwing-axe which, as he was now favoured enemies: vampire, allowed him to one-shot deadly vampires.
And more silly barks.
Minsc did however have humorous dialog which I think people enjoyed because they always quote him as if reliving the good old days. Such as: "Go for the eyes Boo!"
Personally, I'm not excited for Minsc or Jaheira...unless they are antagonists which the trailer eludes to slightly. Jaheira is most likely still a Harper and she would probably try to kill the protagonist (you) in the story at some point early on.
Jaheira is also a druid so perhaps there will be different leadership in the druid grove during the final version of the game.
I'd rather recruit Kagha or Sazza or just about anyone else we already met the early access.
As for combat prowess, he wasn't amazing in min/max terms, but for the average noob, his massive strength score made him extremely formidable as a frontline character.
