Spoiler - What are those Illithid Dreams?
So it looks like something is communicating with our character through those dreams and I have a feeling that this is a bad news. Those 0 checks on illithid powers make me think that later in the game we are going to be punished for that.

Is it a timer before our character is going to get consumed?
Is there going to be some sort of alignment system "corrupt vs pure" character?
And what is that communicating with us? Absolute? Something else? (I doubt it is a "just a tadpole")

Also since if we see quite a few dreams we now have instead of illithid option we now have "True Sole" and I don't remember throwing a dice on that option. Anyone have any ideas, some stuff that got datamined? Just curios.

We're not entirely sure what the outcome will be, or what even the full story is about these tadpoles and how they differ, but, some of the dreams seem to be the tadpole trying to manipulate you into utilizing it more and thus succumbing to it.

There's also some theories that this could be Shar, Ilsensine (Ilithid God), or something else to do with the netherese. Whether this means turning into an ilithid, or something else, time will tell.

More than likely, it's about control. The more you give in, the more powers you get but you will eventually lose control.

It's not just the tadpole, it's the over-Brain behind it that we will most likely have to deal with at some point. Illithid are simply mind-controlled puppets.

i rarely use the illthid options so i like never get those dreams in any of my playthroughs i probably won't use the illithid options first first play-through either.

the friendly mind flayer in the underdark can give a bit of insight into your condition if you get him the mushrooms he wants.

Almost every dream you have a moment where the game says something along the lines "Something inside you wants it gone..." referring to the dream person. Initially I was thinking the dream person was the tadpole, but honestly now I'm thinking the dream person and the tadpole are two different entities, or the tadpole is indeed using the dream person to manipulate you, and the "thing inside you" which is meant to make you think it's the tadpole might be something else entirely.

Regardless it feels like a three way tug of war going on in those dream sequences and while I know two of the entities present, the third still eludes me. Of course I could be wrong as well.

Its Cthulhu trying to manipulate you into being a puppet for it.

the third person seems like a flowery way of saying your character does not like it.

Illithid. Name of the race of the mindflayers.

(SPOILERS AHEAD)

The tadpole is essentially two entity trying to take over each other imo. One is the tadpole itself, which is connected to the Elder Brain of the Mindflayers. And the other is the weird magic that is interacting with the tadpole. The magic (we learn from Auntie Ethel) is Netherese. Netherese magic is related to The Netheril. They were a human empire thousands years ago and they dealt in heavy and powerful magic. Basically super advanced precursors. So whatever is interacting and changing the tadpole has either learned netherese magic or is an ancient being from that era.

At some point in the game theres a female voice that invades your thoughts and everything becomes dark around you. Which implies Shar, the goddess of darkness. Shar is part of the Netheril Pantheon. So it would make sense that she is the culprit behind the magic in the tadpole. If she is, then those dreams are essentially Shar trying to lure you to her side so she can take over you with her magic tadpole I guess.

Now why does she want to do that is unknown still. But thats pretty much what we can gather from the EA so far.

Its very safe to assume that you need to take that tadpole out ASAP lol. Because on one side, you have the ceremorphosis threatening you. And on the other side you very likely have a god/goddess trying to take over you.

This is honestly the best answer, and this is information you can find simply just by playing the game. One of my play throughs I decided to let auntie ethel take my eye and I learned a great deal more, which was explained above.
Using your illithid power also gives you clues when you have your dreams, speak with your group about them and the powers you unlock.

Hmmm... I did not do the procedure Auntie Ethel proposed for many reasons like I completely do not trust her and I am pretty sure that in addition to not being able to get rid of tadpole (I am sure this tadpole is going to be like a chip from Cyberpunk 2077 -- whole game our character and everyone around us are going to whine that we need to get rid of it and even if there is going to be such opportunity it is going to be right at the end and wouldn't be surprised if the outcome is going to be like in CP2077) and in addition b/c of that "kiss your eye" I am going to have huge issues with aim or some other crap like that... Probably need to make a save, take a procedure and roll back the save to see what is going to happen.

well there are options if you get your eye popped or destroyed that can undo the negative if I'm remembering correctly, and auntie gives you some interesting information about the tadpole that nobody else seems to notice, but that info is out now so it's not like you HAVE to do it now.

I tend to see it like the dreams in Baldur's Gate 1. If you are good, you'll get good "bonus powers" and if not you get "evil bonus powers". Basically, as others have said, you have either a nascent god in your head or a piece of a very old one. Much like the power of Ba'al they are trying to manipulate you, but you kind of control the power, not the other way around but the more you use it, the more it controls you.

I prefer Volo's procedure.
