However if Larian designed Encounters around Barrelmancy then this wont work..... but it would mean Larians game design is highly incompetent.
because then encounters like the Zhentarim Hideout and trap would be alot different.
For high-strength characters like Lae'zel, jumping is preferable to moving. For lower strength characters, it is substantially worse and a waste of your movement.
It's entirely possible. Don't blame the game for making it the only option when you're not even considering other options.
I remember when game journalist citicized Icewind Dale 2 beta because of exploding barrels and made fun of Kegsplitter axe. Good old times.
I guess I would enjoy this game with gameplay I like - I don't know... maybe BG-like gameplay? Or at least the type of gameplay from Solasta, ToEE or even Gold Box games. I had more fun playing Pool of Radiance from 1988 than BG3 ;<
so yeah add more barrels please!
