FYI: Bribe Traders to happy
Noticed yesterday when I slightly overpaid on a barter that it moved the needle of disposition to me.

So I tested and sure enough you can just overpay and push the happiness up into the green if you want.

I haven't studied if a down payment would give discounts that would end up profitable, but thought people would like to know either way

With 150 they usually go to 100

I give them 200 before I even buy anything , gets them to 100% happy; because I like making people happy. The discount is always worth it...

Then I steal my gold back because I'm greedy.

Does the happiness meter change depending on who's doing the bartering? Or is it universal across the whole party? I have not tested any of these mechanics.

I didn't even realize that this was a thing. Thank you for making this thread.
It doesn't really seem worth it unless it's a vendor you're going to be going back to many times (perhaps once we get to Baldur's Gate?)

Just sell with the highest Charisma character instead.

High Cha and high persuation should make a difference. At least I think I noticed a difference between my Bard and some of my other chars. I didn't do extensive testing, though.

High charisma + high attitude provides a decent discount and profit. If I plan to buy stuff from a merchant, I always raise its attitude.

It's the fact we have these choices that make a great RPG my good sir.

Well, sure, I'm just pointing out that if you're not returning to the same vendor over and over, then it's not worth the cost of raising their attitude toward you - this is why I generally don't bother with this feature yet, since you can kind of just sell whatever you have on you to each successive vendor you encounter as you go through the current content.

By the time we get to Baldur's Gate, we will presumably be returning there for supplies as we explore the undercity, so then it will make even more sense to butter the palms of our favorite vendor to get the best prices. Until then, I just rely on my highest Cha + Persuasion character to get the best prices.

Also, there's so much loot and gold in the game currently, it makes almost no difference at this point in time.
idk man i just have my warlock use darkness and then rob them. this game is really broken without a DM to stop your nonsense.

ill be honest if you're going to just rob npcs you might as well use the infinite gold cheat because that'll just save you time, no reason to loot everything and keep robbing npcs when you could just take a shortcut, its not like you can fail, with darkness they cant see you, period.

Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should :P

Keep in mind, anything you **SELL TO A MERCHANT** will be on his corpse if you kill him...

So... sell him a bunch of stuff, buy the stuff he's got, kill him, and get your stuff back.

Oh wait was this a thread about being nice to merchants? Sorry :3
