Gnomes are scaled-down Elves
They have enemies in the game that look more like gnomes than the player characters. Pathetic.

Id like to play as a Gnome Wizard, but currently, the Small Races look like a clownshow of proportions that make looking at the character an act of utter disgust. Below is a human skeleton.

And this is the current Halfling / Gnome skeleton.

The problem is applicable to a lesser degree to the Dwarf skeleton (skull), but sharing the same main body type, leads to wrong body types for the major portion of selectable races.

Below is a simplified description of the D&D 5e Races, from tallest to smallest:
  • Dragonborn ... ~1,98m tall (~117% human), average width
  • Githyankii ... ~1,87m tall (~110% human), slender body
  • Human / Tiefling / Half-Elf ... ~1,70m tall, average width
  • Elf / Drow ... ~1,52m tall (~90% human), slender body
  • Dwarf ... ~1,37m tall (~80% human), bulky body
  • Gnome ... ~1,07m tall (~63% human), slender body
  • Halfling ... ~0,92m tall (~53% human), average width
( source: https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Githyanki?so=search )

Below is a list of BG3 bodies that fit their D&D description:
  • Human ... AKA the standard body; fits for a Human
  • Tiefling / Half-Elf ... shares the Human body ("more or less")

And these are plain wrong bodies:
  • Githyanki ... shares Human body despite Githyanki being both slender and taller than Humans
  • Elf / Drow ... shares Human body despite Elfs / Drows being both slender and smaller than Humans
  • Dwarf ... the overscaled head / skull and bulkyness would fit if its height were 80% of that of a human, as per its D&D description, but its more in the height range of a Gnome than a Dwarf, just way too small for the head / skull and bulkyness it sports
  • Gnome ... Elf-sized head / skull put on a baby body, looks the 2nd most disgusting of all selectable races, shares the Halfling height despite Gnomes being taller than Halflings and instead the Dwarf having just the right body height, is noticeable more slender than the Halfling, but the head / skull is still ways off
  • Halfling ... Human-sized head / skull put on a baby body, looks the most disgusting of all selectable races, its height might be correct, but its proportions are just way off, its width is also way off to what sums up to a downscaled Human, as per its description

Id also like to add that the 'Nordic' head types that make up the vast majority of Gnome heads, and also most heads of the other selectable Races, make sense for people that are generally taller than average.

They may make sense for Humans, even Elfs though to a lesser degree, but they make absolutely no sense on a Gnome. The "Nordic" head types, that make up the entirety of Gnome heads worsen the problem at hand considerably, as they do for all other races too.

.

My proposals:

A.) Elf / Drow / Githyanki at least get a slender body type

B.) Dwarf gets a much taller new body; 80% Human body height, not the current ~60%

C.) Gnome gets Dwarf body height but slender body width, keeps Elven head because on that larger body it may fit into proportions

D.) Halfling keeps body height but head is downscaled considerably and body gets slimmed to some degree

E.) non-"Nordic" head types are added to the game; the game really needs a diversity here as for the most parts, there is 1 asian head, 1 african head and the rest 4+ are "Nordic", the one-sidedness of head types worsen the problem that smaller Races have

*Note: with "Nordic" head types I mean ... generally: taller head, wider yaw, taller chin, taller and longer nose, eye positions are higher and the rest of 'prominent' "Nordic"-themed facial features

The game feels like it was intended to reflect a "Viking" kind of nordic people and plays in Icewind Dale, with the Gnomes being intended as "Bloathead Viking Babies".
