How make druid beasts more powerful?
Are there ways to make druid animal forms more powerful than they are by default? For example we can increase our stats for us in humanoid form using some equipment of items (like hag's 'gift').
But what about animal form? Can bear have more hp and wolf make more damage or druids are stuck with what they have? :Maul:

They are already pretty powerful by themselves. Polar bears have 30 hit-points. That means if you use every wild shape to turn into a polar bear you will be getting 180 bonus HP. And then there is lunar mend and whatever concentration spell you used before transforming. Also the polar bear has an AoE taunt which is quite rare and precious in 5e.

I agree that is already very powerful, maybe even overpowerful) But i don't knw are mechanics for 'lvling up' your animal form in the game and are they even planned. Because at some point 30hp will not be enough.
But looks like it is a quiestion for after-release time)

In BG3, druid forms have set characteristics and you have to level up to unlock more powerful ones. There isn't away to make an existing form permanently better. With a bit of luck, we might unlock fun things like dinosaur or elemental forms later!

The animals don't level up per se. Druids can transform into more powerful animals as the druid levels up. Circle of the Moon druids specialize in wildshaping into animals so they get the best animals.

The game won't reach level 20, but a high level circle of the moon druid can transform into adult dragons and gain all of their abilities.

There’s 2 things to talk about here for the OP:

1.) you can’t really “level up” a form. That form is static, the “Leveling up” comes from learning new, stronger forms as you gain levels. As you level up you gain access to more forms. So, while the polar bear won’t ever get stronger, you’ll eventually learn better forms like a Giant Eagle, a Giant Octopus, or even a T-Rex.

2.) while you can’t level up things like armor, hp, or attack…
Your “Mental” attributes stay the same when you shift forms. So, if you had (for example) 16 Wisdom and you shift to a polar bear, you’ll still have 16 Wisdom. If you get +2 wisdom leveling up to 18 Wis, when you shift to polar bear you’ll still have 18 Wisdom.

So items like headband of Intellect can shift your Intellect up a lot in animal forms.

This only applies to mental stats (Int, Wis, and Cha)

I don’t think any Druid gets dragon forms. You typically cap out at a T-Rex from what I remember. For a dragon you need to cast things like true polymorph spell.

At level 20 Druid does get Archdruid, which gives them unlimited Wild shape shifts which gets pretty unbelievable.

Moon Druid can shapeshift into higher CR beasts, but only beasts, and only those he encountered. Also elementals.
Dragons are not beasts.

You're right. I was wrong. I just remembered a bit of homebrew someone playing a moon druid had with their DM.

The “only beasts he has encountered” I think is an optional rule.

'only beasts he has encountered and survived this encounter' :Relaxing:

I mean, it is really weird that a Moon Druid that never even saw a polar bear can shapeshift into it. Druids are not really known for traveling much. Unless it is Stars Druids whos whole shtick is maping stars and watching celestial bodies. Or Wildfire Druids who are known to move around places that need healing, by medicine or fire :lunar2019madpig:.

Well, druid needs to -know- about the animal. Picture in a book will go too, or even stuffed animal))

For now, stuck. They changed the 5ed rules because animal forms are absurd in tabletop at early level, and Helsin has multi attack at lv 5, so I expect them to at least have the same melee attack progression martial classes have.

That will be kinda logical, but i'm not sure it will be actually done for each animal form
