Disappointed In The Character Creator!
As the title says...

No sliders just abc choices. Really hope they expand it for final release. As it is now I can't make the kind of character I want to play.
Examples: Human males there is no option for me to make a western or northern European type character. The issues are bone structure and facial features not skin tones. Also notr happy with the choices for male and female Tieflings just nothing appeals to my tastes. Really really need sliders to morph faces and or to change facial features such as mouth, noses, eye shapes etc etc.

while i understand where are you coming from and i partially agree, if you look at cinematics the characters have a lot of facial expression which is really hard to implement with sliders

the monsters i made on sims and other games seems to show this lol

so i dont think its really a big deal, it will be great seeing more customization options on release though

I used blender to create my character to get past the no sliders part, just hoping full release won't break mod importing because id like to use the face for first playthrough.

I disagree about needing sliders versus A, B or C options for one reason: this game's genre.

It's largely a top-down crpg. We aren't really in third person over-the-shoulder views unless we zoom in. Sure, there are cinematics and conversations which can definitely showcase character creator in depth but sliders wouldn't make those stand out any more than having 4-5 body type options with options for different body parts.

Say you create a female character, having 3 to 5 body types based on race and then having options for shoulders, bust, bum and legs, 5-10 face types with unique options for eyes, nose, mouth, jawline and cheekbones per race and you would never even notice the lack of a slider with how many unique characters people could make.

I understand your reasoning but the zoomed out top-down view isn't locked and as you mentioned yourself, can be zoomed in. Even in combat the camera enters a cinematic zoom during finishers. Outside of combat the camera is pretty controllable and in conversations your character is in full view.

Andination mentioned the Sims and when I think about it, that's another perfect example where the top-down camera didn't stop them from having a very robust character creator.
Obviously I wouldn't be looking for Sims level character creation for a fantasy RPG, but at least some level of model morphing would have been a big hit. Especially when the executive producer claims Baldur's Gate 3 has a AAA Budget and Team.

Even Lost Ark had slider based character creation and that's an isometric ARPG with locked camera angles.

It is what it is and I'll enjoy BG3 it all the same! It's not a deal breaker. I just recognise the character customisation is a bit archaic and could have been better.

Since the past is the best predictor of the future: all chances are - it will break existing mods.

Nioh 2 had one of the best character creators. You could adjust the faces in so many ways to make something worth playing. In BG3 for an rpg and D&D, I find this creator shockingly limiting. Having a bunch of boxes to select colors isn't what I'd call options. I want sliders for facial features so I can make my own character, not just predetermined faces the devs think I should play. It's a huge disappointment from an RPG, especially this game. A lot of time went into making assets in the actual game no one cares about over prioritizing a wider range of character options. I'll wait for mods since I played this in early access years ago, but I came back to the final release hoping they'd have added more. It's funny to me how one creator in the modding community can make sliders on faces for a hobby as a mod, in a lot of other games, and could do a better job than this team of professionals did.

Also crazy how people are praising this game but for whatd RPG is all about, it's lacking deeply on the key feature RPGS should have and other studios have done. None of the ones who complained about this game on twitter, mostly Japanese. like Team Ninja. I guess BG3 would shine when comparing it to Rockstars' pathetic character creators in GTA and RDR or Blizzards (in D4) but there are studios no one talks about that deserved praise and went above and beyond to make good character creators that no one talks about. The character creator in BG3 is NO selling point to me. I regretted purchasing early access because of this and the final release only deepens that regret.
