The mechanism is a bit odd rn.
You press throw them as you would throw any weapon, the potion breaks on contact & a liquid spills which heals in a small aoe circle.
You can also get up downed allies by throwing a healing potion at them.
Sometimes theres a miscalculation & the potion damages your party member so it's safest to throw it at their feet without targeting them.
The metagaming strat is to heal 2 people with 1 potion by throwing it between them while they're next to each other.
From what I've gathered it both deals damage(grey) and heals(blue) as two separate dice roles. BUT from what I've seen in game even with the grey damage number showing, my character doesn't actually take damage, they only receive the healing. Is this different for you?
As SnarkOne mentioned: throwing potion vials is a great way to revive a 'downed' character. Typically it seems to be better to use your action to drink the potion on the character who needs healing when possible, and throw the potions at downed characters to revive them when needed.
Edit: Woops grammar
Yeah, a companion had very little HP and when I threw a health potion, it ended up with companion being on the ground begging for help. I'll try again later today to see how it will go. I generally hoard the potions because I hardly need them but sometimes they are useful where I can't use spells anymore.
Sometimes we do miss and accidentally hit the other player, which does damage. lol
So just make sure to throw it near their hitbox but not at them!
At least that's what my impression was after looking at the log.
Granted that i don't use it alot so this could be wrong. It's on my cheezy feature list of don't use anyway so ...
This ^
Agreed. Hahaha no concussion or shrapnel? Just heals you because liquid contact?
"Lemme heal you!"
*Glass pieces cuts and kills the companion*
So I never tried again till my multiplayer buddies asked since the NPCs are programmed to heal allies this way.
By the way, does anyone know if the thrown potions heal enemies too?
We know it works on NPCs. It would only have some very minor redeeming value if it did heal enemies as well. Otherwise this should be some legendary level ♥♥♥♥ right here hahahaha
