Why do Druids speak "Latin" in D&D?
They are supposed to speak "Gaelic".

Actually you are right. I have been playing too much Warhammer lately, where all Wood Elves are Druitic in nature.
So no, it's not even inspired by Tolkien, cause Druids were the shamans of the ancient Celts.

Not that it really matters because druids are not ancient celts.

Yeah dude I don't know my own culture, sure...

Okay. I’ll rephrase.

D&D Humans aren't actual humans either, what's your point?
Fantasy Druids like those in D&D are a fictional representation of actual Druids, which were the shamans of the ancient Celts.

Ancient Celts have nothing to do with D&D. You'll just have to deal with it. Complain about it all you want on the internet, the druid class isn't part of ancient celtic culture.

In fact it wasn't available when D&D first published. It eventually became a subclass to clerics or a companion set in the most basic edition of D&D back in 1976.

The druid class in AD&D 2nd Edition were loosely inspired by the celtic shamans during the time period of the Ancient Roman Empire, it's true, but loosely inspired by is not the same thing as actually being part of that culture.

Druids in-game weren't given any real depth about how their societies worked or what druidic culture was like until 1994 when The Complete Druid's Handbook was published, which got into druidic society, magic groves, class kits and herbal lore.

Since then they have become far more fleshed out and have little-to-nothing to do with the ancient celts.
