Wisdom AND Dexterity
But yeah ... every races with a Wisdom bonus
As the OP ask for "the" best we can answer more simply I guess ^^
I agree, it brings somes interesting build too - I will go for Drow Druid personnally, there is a lot of life in the Underdark !
Take the Spores Circle when it will be out
Personally I will rp a casted out drow hermit because she doesn't adhere to the politic of drow society and "just" lived there, in the wild Underdark, while worship Eilistraee
So Circle of the Moon for her o/
Oh yes I have forgot they have this
It's really cool in terms of lore :D
My first full play through on release is going to be a Half Drow who has been shunned from the Human world for been Drow and shunned from the Drow world for been human where all their life everyone has lied to and betrayed them so as a result they are only looking out for themselves but have a sense of honour and justice that makes them believe they are superior to everyone else because once they give their word they will never break it and never tell a lie. I plan on playing them as lawful evil even though you can not pick alignment.
A character I would love to follow and see evolve ! Maybe they will learn trust along the way
Btw, I like that you will try to not break vow or lie without alignement
I feel this even more rewarding because the only person who can judge yourself is you, as a player, if your lie or break word
Enjoy
Going by pure ability score this means
Gold Dwarf / Wood Elf > Human > Half-Elf > Strong Heart Halfing > Shield Dwarf > High Elf / Lightfoot Halfing / Drow > Githyanki / All Tieflings
Technically Gold Dwarf should be higher, but I'd say Wood Elf is really equal and more traditional/cliché pick.
This is from currently playable races. There are a few in PHB to come.
Drows don't and High Elves are not very good druids, in fact even Shield Dwarfs can bebetter than high elves.
The Variant Human is the PHB race that might beat out Wood Elf (the current best) in some druid builds, and Variant Human is in PHB (as an optional), so we might get it. This is due to Variant Humans getting an additional feat from the 1st level and makes them one of the best races for almost all classes.
