Wasting actions on melee attacks is simply playing against the strengths of the class. A measly splash of 2 paladin levels won't make you a melee powerhouse. But it WILL make you a weaker spellcaster - you will effectively lose a level's worth of spell slots, not to mention delay by 2 levels access to better spells.
A Tempest cleric dip is simply better all around: it gives you the same heavy armor and weapon profs, but doesn't inhibit your spell slot progression, and adds a unique powerful ability to maximize your spells thrice per day. So instead of making you weaker, it makes you stronger.
Larian did muse about putting the cap at around 18, months ago after hearing people complain about the level 10 bit. 10 is really meh if you are just making a single game, unless they make expansions which Larian is not known to do outside of minor dlc's. Or plan on making multiple games. It will not reach 20, but they did mention something along the lines of possibly allowing it to go to 15-18 ish at the highest.
Hell you can hit level 5-6 in act 1, and there's three acts....
Yea but you need a ton more exp then the earlier levels to level up.
