How would you personally rank the companions from BG 3 and BG 2 ??
Out of curiousity, how would you rate the current five BG 3 companions, in terms of how you like them / how interesting you find them ?

Also, how would you rate your favourite BG 2 companions ? (BG 2 obviously being a natural benchmark for comparison).

It would be interesting to see... Although I suspect Minsc will be most people's favourite from BG 2. All opinions obviously being fair. There is no right or wrong.

I'll go first, although it ought to be said that I haven't really explored the BG 3 companions' dialogue in great detail yet, as I decided to leave much of that to the full release, so my grounds to evaluate them is abit thin.

BG 3:
1) Lae'zel
2) Shadowheart
3) Gale
4) Wyll
5) Astarion

BG 2:
1) Jaheira (I loved the voice actress, with the slight accent)
2) Yoshimo (although the hex plot-twist in Asylum was such a major disappointment. :steamsad: Bad decision by the devs)
3) Anomen (a proud braggart, I know, but that gave him character, because he had flaws. Great acting by the voice actor too, and his quest was ineresting)
4) Korgan Bloodaxe. (A proper cold-hearted scoundrel that one)

Jan jansen and Edwin Odesseiron were both a little witty. I liked them too. Viconia was interesting as well, even though I never actually got to pursue her entire dialogue tree to the end. Which is one of my BG 2 regrets.

I have shadowheart and Gale as my top two, but I think these characters will change quite a bit over time. You can already start to see it by the end of the act
If you take away the prettiness of the Shadowheart avatar (but kept the same voice), how many would still have her high on their list ?
Pumis and Lichdom enjoying badmouthing about me, lol, I prefer that than have you at my side, sorry for you Sew, I don't wish anybody such "good" company. And if you all three complain on this post, first don't make comment on me, how stick argue on game is so difficult?

It's been a good while since I played BG2, so I'll only do BG3.

This is the order in which I like them
1) Shadowheart
2) Lae'zel
3) Gale
4) Wyll

and this is how interesting they are, or how much potential for character development they have shown
1) Lae'zel
2) Shadowheart
3) Wyll
4) Astarion
5) the void
6) something boring
7) Gale
1) Shadowheart
2) Lae'zel
3) Gale
4) Wyll
5) Every other NPC
99+) Astarion

Currently, my best to worst is ASTARION / GALE / LAE'ZEL / SHADOWHEART / WYLL.

Interesting how my view is almost the opposite of so many other posters here, where ASTARION has (I think) the best nuanced voice acting and the best graphic animation by quite some distance.

Next best graphically and voice acting quality is GALE.....huge self-importance is not that difficult to voice-act, but his insincere praise of your character is not so easy to do well and that tendency of his to lecture others is nicely done. He's a jerk, but it's played well.

LAE'ZEL is a combo of shallow and abrasive, but my only gripe with her is that your own character needs more robust replies to her when she demands you do things (like when you first met) or chides you for sleeping (in camp). Her voice is good.

In comparison, SHADOWHEART is relatively shallow, she mouths some relatively evil lines without much conviction....... and her secret nature prevents much interaction. I did suggest above that if her avatar was less obviously pretty, she might be a good deal lower on many lists. Her voice is upper-class British and fits well.

WYLL probably has a better heart than most other companions but his glory-seeking comes over as rather 'meh', both in graphic rendition and in voice acting (his entrance at the gates of the druid enclave is absurdly OTT). His voicing is perfectly fine.

My list is not about how 'nice' companions are, since even discounting the eye-parasite they are all self-serving by condition (Astarion and Gale) or by temperment (Lae'zel, Shadowheart), or both (Wyll). You may have noticed I like the vocal quality of ALL the voices, they are a nice mix........... and all the companion voicing has a base level of good or better.

What do you mean nuanced voice acting? If anything he is overacting and it's the main thing that bothers me about him. He is the least subtle person in the game.

I like it when I totally agree with someone but it has the opposite effect on me. :lunar2019grinningpig:

Just look at the absolute horror on his face when he is told about the mind parasite, to paraphrase "So it will make me a monster, what else should I expect". Probably the single best voice and graphic rendition of all.

He does have a slyness, but it is mostly to deflect criticism like when he is 'outed' as a vampire and vented at by other companions. I see that as a veneer over his real self, a defence mechanism to allow him to get by in a world that could easily turn to hunt and kill him.

To successfully portray himself as a victim is nicely done. His liking for violence does not come over as well as some other aspects of his personality, but overall he is very well done. Like Brian Sirith, I like his relatively straightforward approach. As a counterpoint to Aria Athena, why do you like Shadowheart so much ? As noted above, I see her as one of the least convincing characters, with some of her comments just sounding like she is playing at being evil, rather than living it.

I can only see Astarian as a fruity vampire wannabe. I just cant stand to talk to him to get anymore out of him. If I could sew his lips shut and have him be my stealth backstabber, he is ok.

Until we come up to running water, then he is afraid to get his shoes wet.

Would be nice if I can have Lazeal ♥♥♥♥♥ slap him. That would be hilarious.
Astarion is my favorite. Wyll is my least favorite...kind of, I haven't played much with the Gythyanki (whatever they are, the orc-elf chick) - killed her early.
Let him bite me

Lol, I suppose you can't even imagine how totally weird your comment looks to me, or you was roeplaying a psychopath.

I hope you also killed a ton of NPC, and I wonder what means kill a NPC in a video game, some drops and some XP?

I can understand for the most part what you are saying, but to me it looks fake. What I see is Astarion pretending to be over the top while being a bad actor. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he is just messing with us and that is not his true self.

I can only think of a somewhat bad example, and that would be Nyrissa from Kingmaker. This is what it reminds me of.
@ Dorok. Heck, I've killed Lae'zel when I played a fighter................for her armour. A game is a game is a game.....................if you conflate this with real life, you require more mental stability.
