I just think it should be possible to kill her in the base, in a probably even more difficult battle. She could enslave all NPCs around her and turn them into redcaps, for example. Or give the whole place a curse and turn it venomous. So many ideas, but either NYI or just forgotten.
Well, for one, the druids and tieflings should come to her aid, because as far as anyone knows, she's just a harmless old lady (or maybe some of them know her secret and are ok with it...)
And, yeah, I agree that the rules should be followed and if you can kill her, then you ought to be able to. No magic deus ex machina.
What I'm getting at, however, is that if they want to keep her alive for later storylines, then they should give her contingencies within contingencies. She is, after all, a hag, one of the most notoriously difficult monsters to kill in D&D. They usually have all sorts of backup plans to save their own life.
So why not give her some of that? Give her a magic circle in her shop that teleports her back home. Give her some anti-magic spells like Dispel Magic, Counterspell, or Anti-Magic Shell (just in case anyone tries to use magic to prevent her from leaving). Silence to stop spellcasters.
Her first priority should be to escape to her hut, but Larian just hands her a get out of jail free card and makes her unkillable.
Alternatively, ya, I would accept her doing something to that affect.
then she is just lying there, and you can easily kill her :)
so maybe this is also possible in the shop.. i mean the non-lethal way..
The shop in the druid grove or in her home? Because you can kill her in her home before she flees, if you're fast enough or stun her.
Not sure about non-lethal, though. Hmm, would be interesting to see if that changes something or she'll disappear like everyone else after being knocked out.
Actually afaik Hag magic is very special and can be noticed if used (especially on other persons). So she would not really be able to hide well and there would be no reason for druids or tieflings to help her. The magic users would likely easily notice there is something wrong with her. The goblins, gnolls and most monstrous humanoid or evil races would gladly help her. Dark elves not so much, as she would likely eat them:D
the petrified character remains petrified.. so i assume, the game handles this situation similar to the one when you can let her go for a price.. without the price ofc.. (an no XP for killing her)
and the quest remains active
Rewrite is minimal (or, rather, not super extensive, but any rewrite at all takes work) and recognition and alteration of story based on player action maintained.
Theory comes from: (Reading incidental documents in her home shows correspondence with others like her and one that specifically mentions the main point of contention in EA that came from another "auntie".)
This all assumes it'll be the same in 1.0. There's been many, many rumblings (mostly from the community) that there'll be significant differences from EA in release (which I'm erroneously calling 1.0 but I liked it so much when I saw it that I'm gonna keep typing it).
