DIED to SHARD of GLASS in the first 5 mins?
I know there is a level of realism developers want to accomplish, but when you die within the first 5 minutes due to shards of glass, that leaves a question, when do you cross the lines of Realism and Fun. I hadn't player BG3 in since previous patch, so I was thoroughly excited to play! I noticed a new option to "Attack" Selected item. So after the "Brain" CGI, i attacked the nearby 'BRAIN JARS'. I was disheartened to see I had taken damage and DIED from shards of Glass? I don't recall in the BG1, breaking boxes and taking 'splinter' damage. Now I live in fear of breaking anything in the game =/

What class were you? because there is the possibility that if you were e.g. a wizard ( thus low max HP), you'd have been dealt enough AoE Acid/Caustic damage from explosing the brain jar thing to go down ( there is a reason people joke "Don't insult a wizard, because they'd go into death saves = vicious mockery")

Call it a learning experience. I did that too in my first few minutes of the game. I experimented with every interaction I can do to the environment including hitting everything that showed an HP bar like those crazy looking chairs and those weird brain jars. Also you didn't die from the shards of glass, you did from the liquid that came out of those jars which were highly corrosive.

Bioware doesn't make BG3. I would agree that some of the exploding stuff is a little over the top, some people like it, some people don't.

At level 1 I'm not sure that class really matters, you're talking like 2-3 hp difference aren't you?

If you have 4 hp, or 6hp, and acid does 1d4 ( as an example) - One of them can die, the other will just be low.

That's not really how the explosions work in this game, there usually a chain reaction of stuff. You have characters starting with 4 hp?

edit: I want to say through all my play through the characters were around 10 to maybe 12, and maybe something as low as 8 or 9. And want to say 3rd play through died from some exploidng glass stuff early and was sort of bogus but whatever, why say some people like it some people don't

Personally I don't think 2-4 health points would matter in like 90 to 95% of the cases, would have died regardless of class in those early situations, but wouldn't know unless did a study.

This is why you save, save, save. Quick save is your friend.
Those jars contain caustic brine. It's not the glass that's killing you.

F5 is quicksave. Also, a lot in the game can kill you. If you step in fire, acid, fall... If you have only 8 hp then dying is easy. There are those blue tentacle light things that heal you on the ship. You can also use Mage Armor and you find healing potions.
While making my characters, I rearrange the Abilities so I don't have anything below a 10. That way, I'm not rolling any negatives. If you were a Wizard, you may have an 8 strength which also goes into your athletics and (I think) a survival skill which are both saving throws in the event you go down. So not having a negative roll would help you.

OP, you're mad about this? THIS is exactly the type of memes I want to randomly encounter in this game! When this happened to me, it was one of the funniest things I've ever seen!!!

If I'm going to game over - I'd rather it be to some weird, hyper-specific chain reaction rather than due to my ineptitude. The combat will never get over on me in any normal instance.

Don't let the little brain jars dissuade you from destroying things! If anything you should be collecting them now that you know their potentially incendiary destructive property.

Can you even pocket those large jars with the caustic brine in them? For example the ones beside the table where we find "Us"?

I can't remember what the ones near Us are called, but I do pocket the Nautiloid Tanks where you fight the 3 Intellect Devourers with Lae'zel. Between her and a Str Fighter Tav, I usually leave the tutorial with at least 4.

5th edition D&D hit dice for wizards is d6, no class has d4 as in earlier editions. However, you could have a sickly character with a Constitution score of 6 or 8 that grants -2 or -1 HP per level, so yes a couple characters could fare pretty badly already in tutorial. You'll get used to it and my suggestion would be that even if you make a sorcerer or wizard have at least 14 in Constitution score.
