Patch taking forever (LARIAN!)
First Steam makes a copy of the game (original Game is located on SSD (100GB free space), copy is made on HDD) - 25 min
Patch is downloaded - 10 min
Patch is applied to Version on the HDD - 30 min
Game on the SSD is deleted - 2 min
Game from the HDD is "installed" on the SSD - 2 hours already, estimated time to finish: over a year

how fun, a 3.6 GB big patch is transfering over 240GB of Data and taking longer than 3 hours.
In case it should really take over a year to install this patch, that's it for the early access version for me then. But hopefully until then the patchroutine doesn't look like a Horror-storry one hard drive would read to another one

going to go back watching the install loading bar, exciting times ahead

They are aware and stated the next patch method should be different though.

Update keeps pausing, can't finish the update.
Once it reaches 1.67 GB the update stops. When I resume update, it starts over at 1.63 GB, gets to 1.67 and stops again.

same problem but with just over 500MB
if I start the update in the Downloads tab it gives me the error message, about not being able to install on an FAT32, while the game is clearly installed on NTFS

Download doesnt finish

Wasn't there a similar problem with the last patch? C'mon knuckleheads!
Kivy Oct 27, 2020 @ 12:01pm
yea... I get a steam write error only on this game and nothing else

It took my system 46mins total, just finished. The irony being that two ssd's (BG3 on a 3rd drive) had over 100GB free but it uses the HDD with 200GB free.

♥♥♥♥!
this patch is poorly implemented for a 70$ game.....
3.6 gigs and it was done an hour ago..... and i am not the only one with this issue... take a look around.... Dev's please do something, anything.....

Everything seems to be a bit ''hit or miss'' with this games patches, I've had zero problems with them but, reading the forums, a lot of others seem to be having major problems.

Took me about 10 or 15 minutes on a M2 SSD.

I really blame Valve for this.

Bug with Patching? - HUGE space requirements...
Hi,

Was just wondering - why do the update patches require such a huge amount of drive space for patching? The game reserves ~80Gb of drive space even if the patch then says it's only a 4Gb update (as the last patch did)...

I am unsure what the reason is but it might not be a bug and just the way their engine is built. Unreal Engine for example requires entire parts of the game to be redownloaded for even small patches.

IIRC it's a Steam thing. It duplicates your whole install, applies a relatively small patch, and swaps the new version for the original if the patch process worked.

In theory, this should eliminate a busted update forcing you to download the whole game again.

And thats when after 2 hours the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing doesn't show "corrupted disk"...
