I suppose you technically could just kill the druid that would've confronted you before stealing it, but that's probably not what you had in mind.
After i saved the druid from the goblins it was still on bugbear body so i picked it up and gave it to the kids.. got the quest done and didn't start a war..not my fault if those druids don't see the difference between the real one and fake...
I casted the Darkness spell and MADE SURE it covered the idol. The fog that comes after removes the druid's line of sight to the idol.
Then I quickly activate forced turn base mode so I don't lose the effects or anything.
Snatch the idol.
And teleport to a different area lmao.
When they investigate the area, I'm nowhere near so they can't fuss about it.
Edit:
If you want to do it relatively legitimately than doing the fast travel thing, you could chug an invisibility potion after snatching the idol.
invis should work.
grab and throw to pick up later may work too.
grab and send to camp may also work :)
I looted it way out of the camp there was no one around. But the fight still started... only after i stashed it into the body it didn't trigger found out about reset of the ownership through pickpocketing.
Anyway, there should be a a better ways to steal it and different reaction should happen if you steal it without getting caught.
This: you can get a quest from the tiefling young thief guild once if you save the child from the harpies and buttered him up by funding his Baldur's Gate expansion plans. The fake one prevents the Druid's going aggro.
