We can't be between Baldur's Gate & Elturel
So from the sign it says to the west is Baldur's Gate and to the east is Elturel...this would put us around Fort Morninglord. Judging from the scenery it appears we are around large masses of water i.e. lakes, etc. but the only water around between these two places is the river Chionthar. I'm new to D & D but love the lore and studying the maps. Is this river Chionthar that large? I thought we were around Cormyr...am I dorking out too much? :)

Thanks!

It's a pretty wide river, yes.

I don't recall any details, so I went searching for some maps on the web.

From what I've seen, you're trying to be too aggressively specific about the details, when they will be fleshing out areas to add flavour and variance. Given that Fort Morninglord is only a short (?) distance from Elturel, and BG is 4 times further west, I'd guess you can think there could be some additional water 'features' feeding into/out of the main river and is probably set further west of FM.

In this instance, i find the english language retarded...

In French you have Riviere(River) and Fleuve(wich in english is also called River don't understand how its the same in english).

A "Fleuve" is a MUCH wider river, see the Amazonian river?, imagine THAT.

The Chionthar is supposedly Large enough to let 2-3 ships side to side on it.

Here you have the most accurate map of BG city(from the Descent into Avernus module book) and you can see how ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ large the "River" is

Cool map thanks!
The best part about maps is that you can never know how accurate they truly are. It all depends on who made the maps and what information they had themselves.

Here's a copy of the world map from the game:

It seens to fit neatly into the areas surrounding Baldurs Gate.

Actually your second image is pretty useless, cause Candlekeep is like a few days worth of travel South of Baldur's, but here on the map you've shown, it is very high on the map, so we don't even see where Baldur's gates is.

Dargsy Wargon overlayed the location of the city in BG3 with the location of the city in BG1 to create one big map.

Ah i get what you tried to do, its just that there's still such a huge gap of black void between the two that i din't get what you wanted to show with this.

There's at least one (maybe several) different exits at the edge of the map.

If you click those exits, it will bring up the world map - but you can't go anywhere else at the moment because it's in Early Access.

** SIGH! ** I hate geography. The body of water is the river Chiontar. It's a big navigable river - think about the Danube, Rhine, Ottawa River, Mississipi or the Ohio. Barges and other river traffic, tributaries
