Cannot steal from Dammon
There is a merchant among the tielfling refugees called Dammon, having a Scale Mail +1 on him (for sale). I managed to pass the sleight of hand check (requiring a flat 20) and yet he immediately knows I stole from him. What's the point of the roll, then? How the heck do I steal from Dammon?

He's probably bugged. What I did is to steal the mail and steal a lot more items until I fail and he catches me. Once you see his attitude decrease, that's when you know you can leave stealth.

I see. Thanks for the heads up.

You can steal from him, but as soon as you steal the thief has to hightail it out of there (you should have about 2 seconds to open some distance). I usually hide by where the Tiefling kids are selling junk. Don't fast travel away. You need the "I've been robbed" dialog to execute and he has to start searching the area for the thief. When he doesn't find anyone he'll return to normal. You don't have to move the whole party, just the thief.

Sometimes Dammon bugs and spams his looking for thief line. I did as you said before and it triggered a fight whenever my thief gets anywhere near him lol

No harm in trying this method tho. Might work for OP.

I don't know if something changed with fixies. But I can steal the most things with my rouge from Dammon. Is a full rouge class scilling. Only one armor I wasn't able to steal. But if you buy this armor you can steal all his money back without detecting you. I hope Larian let stealing like now for the rouge classes, because this make a lot of fun :)

The thing is that he instantly knows you stole from him after you succeed in the sleight of hand test, no matter what, and if you bail before he notices it, you instantly aggro all tielflings when you go back. What I do now is just rest at the camp to respec the money from the dwarf merchant earlier in the groove until I got about 2 grand, the I buy the armor from Dammon and bribe the guard after I steal the money back from him.

Interesting. I had no trouble stealing there. But I started stealing after i saved 2 childrem from the Tiefliengs - maybe that will be some difference. My stealing was all the time very carefully, that mean they don't catch me any time ... I love gaming that I can turn any stone

Somtimes its easier to steal the Gold rather than the objects.

Have the cleric in the party cast Guidance on yourself, steal the Gold.

Have the stealing character unchained from the group and hightail someplace out of view, wait till he's done searching, come back, buy the armor with his Own gold.

Now some of the NPC's behaviors are bugged.

On our Coop game with friends, NPC's don't react AT ALL when we steal from them, even if you fail the steal checks, they don't even cough or move, so you can continuously do it till you succeed.

On my Solo run, they react normaly, if you fail the chekc, they notice you and confronts you.

oh you can. hes jsut more finnicky.

ive wiped him clean twice now.. just took time.

the nearby guard (towards the makeshift-prison thing) will patrol and he needs to intervene and come talk to you ; then you can roll your way out of troubles. if the guard doesnt come to intervene, the smith will just turn hostile without options for you.

with patience you can totally pick him clean.

with practice you can quicksave while the guard is heading your way to save scum the dice roll coming.

tl;dr once you stole a couple neat things , unhide and let yourself be caught so you can roll out of it, if the guard came for you. then rinse and repeat.

OK, so I have been stealing from Dammon every time I go to the grove. As long as I teleport my thief back to camp and wait a bit I am good. I steal different things, pass them to my Character who sells them back. Although on my current run through, Dammon is glitching and all of the Grove attacks my thief, but no one else as long as we are not grouped.

This has worked the best for the more expensive items, after i had 25K gold, I just buy what I want. All the Arrows, potions, armour, etc.

Its different for me...... he skips the usual "I've been robbed" act and he bolts in the direction I have my character hidden while screaming "thief". Then he returns (without catching me) but when the character that stole from him (main) goes near him he says "watch it" or "go bother someone else". So he knows I did it but my character still hasn't lost any attitude with him and he doesn't mention it when I speak to him.

Im just gonna buy my stuff from dammon for a change. Treat him a lil better than most vendors.
