No harm in trying this method tho. Might work for OP.
The thing is that he instantly knows you stole from him after you succeed in the sleight of hand test, no matter what, and if you bail before he notices it, you instantly aggro all tielflings when you go back. What I do now is just rest at the camp to respec the money from the dwarf merchant earlier in the groove until I got about 2 grand, the I buy the armor from Dammon and bribe the guard after I steal the money back from him.
Interesting. I had no trouble stealing there. But I started stealing after i saved 2 childrem from the Tiefliengs - maybe that will be some difference. My stealing was all the time very carefully, that mean they don't catch me any time ... I love gaming that I can turn any stone
Have the cleric in the party cast Guidance on yourself, steal the Gold.
Have the stealing character unchained from the group and hightail someplace out of view, wait till he's done searching, come back, buy the armor with his Own gold.
Now some of the NPC's behaviors are bugged.
On our Coop game with friends, NPC's don't react AT ALL when we steal from them, even if you fail the steal checks, they don't even cough or move, so you can continuously do it till you succeed.
On my Solo run, they react normaly, if you fail the chekc, they notice you and confronts you.
ive wiped him clean twice now.. just took time.
the nearby guard (towards the makeshift-prison thing) will patrol and he needs to intervene and come talk to you ; then you can roll your way out of troubles. if the guard doesnt come to intervene, the smith will just turn hostile without options for you.
with patience you can totally pick him clean.
with practice you can quicksave while the guard is heading your way to save scum the dice roll coming.
tl;dr once you stole a couple neat things , unhide and let yourself be caught so you can roll out of it, if the guard came for you. then rinse and repeat.
Im just gonna buy my stuff from dammon for a change. Treat him a lil better than most vendors.
