Why do the Illithids put tadpoles in dwarves and halflings?
It doesn't make any sense!:lunar2019deadpanpig:

P.S. Btw, before anyone tries to accuse me of trolling, i bought BG3 in GOG. Same nickname.

here you go, just so you fuktards can relate.

so stop creating ♥♥♥♥♥ just for Larians BS. and accept the D&D lore..
Considering that the tadpoles in the game had been edited to not go under ceremorphosis, there isn't a problem with smaller humanoid races as the ceremorphosis never occurs which would lead to the death of the host and the parasite.

Dwarves and Halfilngs cannot be turned through ceromorphosis.

Can someone source that. Not doubting, but I like to read stuff for myself.

Since our tadpoles are modified this is moot for the BG3 plot. However, a PC of the appropriate race with enough knowledge should be able to realize this. There is a period before the characters know that the tadpoles are modified. The Nettie sequence should also play differently for these races.

This page got the mentions of unavailable races, and how gnomes were able to be morphed by warping the process.

Everything is strange with these illithids. They have pupils from birth. They are not afraid of light, either before or after ceremorphosis. I hope their "peaceful" representatives from Ryxyg will give us an explanation.

They are not wrong but

Some creatures were always considered unacceptable for ceremorphosis. Those included centaurs, derro, duergar, dwarves, giants, halflings, and kuo-toa. Any attempt to conduct ceremorphosis in one of those races invariably resulted in death for the host and the tadpole. Most non-mammalian species were also considered incompatible in principle.[3]

But like people have said, these are not normal tadpoles.

If you don't care about Act 1 spoilers, this is some ancient crazy insanely high level/ maybe god level magic effecting these tadpoles.... normal rules do not apply.

That, and WotC recently demonstrated ceremorphosis can affect other species we previously thought couldn't be affected (like gnomes). The company that controls the D&D lore literally wrote that into an adventure. It's canon now.
.

Could you source that too? I'm way behind on this stuff.

please do, i'd love to laugh at you.

I hope they'll let us shoot with the laser pistols that every illithid-gnome is equipped with. This is сanon, right?
alanc9 21 października 2020 o 17:19
Thanks.

The issue is real, but not all that significant. PCs of an inaporopriate race who know about ceremorphosis should be able to wonder why they were tadpoled. Doesn't change the plot since you're still gonna die from the tadpole, but why the mind flayers are wasting a tadpole is a legit question which should be askable.

Well... if these mindflayers are doing it consciously, then they either are the ones who altered the tadpoles or are at least aware of the changes. Standard ceremophosis also only works on human sized goblins and yet there is a small goblin with one in their head as well.

Ceremorphosis for the mind of large hosts is irreversible in an hour. For small hosts, this should be a matter of minutes, but even githyanki behaves as if it has at least a couple of days left. And this is long before the group learns about the unusual nature of tadpoles.

She might not know all the answers, and all the characters are scared because they don't understand why they haven't turned yet.. even a certain character tries to poison and kill you if you ask them about it because they are under the assumption that you will turn any minute now.
alanc9 21 października 2020 o 17:41
That's actually the biggest problem. That character should be exoecting the PC to simply die rather than becone a threat.

Same reason Elves can now be raised from the dead, dwarves can be wizards and warlocks not only exist, but can now cast spells with a short rest. Over time things change.

Or maybe its because WoTC actually read Larian's script and saw that it didn't contradict lore since the tadpoles the players are infected with are not regular tadpoles.

Sure, it's part of the crashed nautiloid section of Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden.
