non-cleric religion?
Does anyone know if you can choose a god to worship without picking cleric? I'm pretty sure there isn't but I might just be dumb and can't see it. If there isn't I feel like there should be, worshiping a god adds a lot of cool dialogue options and it sucks you can't get those with other classes. I want to make an avenger-style arcane trickster rogue but that's sort of impossible without the option to worship a god.

They took that option away in 5e I think. It would be nice to get extra dialogue that way. I wonder what Abderak would do if he found out you were a follower of Ilmater. Last I remember followers of Loviatar are encouraged to wipe out all followers of Ilmater. Has anyone tried that option as an Ilmater Cleric?

Yeah you won't be able to do that in 5E besides that would be a lot of extra dialog in and already dialog heavy game. There is an estimated 45k words in the first act alone, imagine the cost of doing extra voice overs to add additional god choice dialog. The 5E is for those that became interested in D&D from watching Critical Roll and other podcast so they had to make everything very basic so the masses just learning weren't overwhelmed. Just saying.

5e became popular because it was more streamlined and new player friendly. If I remember correctly critical role was using pathfinder until a while after DND beyond started sponsoring them for switching to 5e. I forgot what episode that was.

Critical role used Pathfinder for the first few episodes of the first campaign, then briefly 4e, then 5e. As far as I know DND Beyond only started existing, much less sponsoring them, during the second campaign. So they switched for their own reasons, not because anyone was sponsoring them to.
