Baldur's Gate 3

Baldur's Gate 3

Hex nerf?
Why does hex not transfer between targets when the chosen target dies like in 5e? As its currently implemented, it has no real use. Warlock has very limited spell slots, and using a level 1 to deal an additional 1d6 of bonus damage per shot (maybe will only ever get 2 extra attacks). Its essentially a gimped Hunter's Mark, with the ability to low checks on certain abilities.

When your hexed target dies, you get an ability/spell called, "Reapply Hex". You can reapply the hex.
Imagine running to the forums to complain instead of reading the spell descrption.
Remember as well you can lose hex concentration and lose all its benefits. Wyll is probably abit squish as well easy lost concentration

I think in pillars of eternity the hunters mark spell would jump to nearest target when dead . Was pretty nice.

BG3's Hex spell works exactly the same as the 5e version.

When a Hexed enemy dies, you can use a bonus action on a subsequent turn to Hex a new enemy. It isn't automatic in 5e.
@Skinoflce

Huh.. thanks. I was aware of how Hunter's Mark worked, but when I killed my target as Warlock, I did not receive the same "Reapply Hex" action on the tool bar. I'm assuming it may have been a bug then. I tried it again just now and it did in fact create the new button.

Also, @Hex, the game mentions nothing about the reapply capability in the tool tip for Hex, though it does for Hunters Mark, which is what led to the confusion.
Could be bug , but most likely got hit in the face and lost concentration

I was hiding my Warlock behind a wall during combat so he wouldnt get targeted, so it couldn't have been that. Probably just chalk it up to a glitch then :(.

Though this run items have been glitching, and the icons are not showing (have to hover over blank slots on grid and their descriptions pop up. So maybe the spell icon was glitching like the items?

No it does not work like in 5e, In 5e the Hex damage apply's to all damage the Warlock does Not just EldritchBlast , as of the latest patch i've noticed it apply's more like to melee and some other spells but not all and this def needs to be fixed. I'm sure it sounds strong from a balance point. but you have to remember there is only SO much for warlocks to do Early game Hex and EB are its bread and butter feels bad to not have it work properly

you are replying to a tread that last had activity 9 months ago... (Un)Holy thread necro
And to clarify it only applies to anything with an attack roll. There are some spells that do not have attack rolls

This is exactly right. As Bluefox says, hex only applies to attack rolls. So spells like dissonant whispers or Shatter which are save vs spells, would not benefit from hex. The real money shot to couple with Hex is Scorching Ray. Three separate attack rolls and each can benefit from Hex.
Couple that with buffs like bless and the high ground advantage for high hit probability, and you can score monster damage.

SO that would explain why Magic missile doesnt work because its just straight damage and not a Attack roll then, i understand now
Had the same problem recast Hex not poping up. I actualy could get it out of the spell book but if think only after actually casting Hex first.

Hope that's works for you 2. have fun
make sure you look all over hotbars cos that button can be moved to the next hotbar... You can find it by pressing K (by default) and dragoing it from spell-skill window.

lol it's for balance... just think about it. unavoidable damage abilities receiving massive power level boosts is generally avoided
