I may be mistaken (I don't have the game yet) but it looked like you could mix some spells kinda like Divinity ? I'm not sure at all on that one, still if I can make a melee fighter with a fiery greatsword that'd be amazing
EDIT: you can make a warrior which have a magical weapon that does fire damage - absolutely. There are no limits to magical items. As for now since it is a 5e, the magical items are usually toned down compared to 2e and 3e. As I said, you can coat your weapon and use plenty of stuff combined together. Not sure what you mean by mixing some spells, if you mean combining spellbooks to create something like "Vampiric" stuff in Divinity or if you mean by combining different abilities to create certain effect on the battlefield. You cannot to the first if I'm not wrong but you can do the latter of course.
Sounds good !
I was mainly thinking of some extra spells like as you said, empowering the melee weapon with flames and a few spells like melee AoE fire, a fireball but nothing crazy like a true wizard.
Just to give you an example, Guild Wars 1 had the dual class system and that's how I came to really enjoy that character style.
Your best bet would probably be the Eldritch Knight. Either way, you're not really gonna get anything even remotely close to the Warfare/Pyrokinetic combo of DOS2. Loved playing that one.
