Help me understand the barter/economy in this game
I reached the first encampment, and want to buy some equipment. The blacksmith is selling an uncommon mace, which would be great for my cleric. It says it's 600 gold in the description, but if I want to barter it the guy wants it for 1380 gold.

I have to sell almost everything in my inventory to afford that, not to mention 600 gold was already kinda hefty to begin with. And this is jut a single piece of gear for one character. I also have to manage three other party member equipments, and so far none of the enemies seem to be dropping decent gear

Sounds like the merchant dislikes you.
probably depends on your charisma

IDK, I literally just met him, and I'm pretty sure he thanked me for saving his friends with the goblin attack at the gate

Charisma level will help bring down the price a bit. If your charisma sucks try buying the item with Wyll or Shadowheart if you don't have him.

well uh... have you ever played an RPG before? the "sell price" is what you get from selling to a merchant. which is roughly 1/2th to 1/3rd of the buy price. Though i can see why it is confusing that you don't see the real price unless you try to buy it.

Yes, I get the sell price part, but I am failing to see why the merchant wants it for so much. I guess I'll just bring someone with a high charisma

With 17 cha and casting the spell "friends" on trader a 400gold item cost me 880 to buy and i get 727 for my 1600 ruby compared to my 8cha warr that has to pay 1040 for the 400 weapon and only get 615 for the 1600 ruby.

I myself think it make no sence that a "maxed out" char pay 120% more then base value and a "crap cha char" pay 160% for a item. Yes in the longrun it makes a diffrence but if they don´t offer loads of cha boosting items/spells/levs it will not increase alot with higher levs. If my math is right that is only 4% lower cost per charisma bonus (2cha) and 4.5% increase in sale value per charisma bonus (2cha).

TBH i'm really intrested. Anyone who play can apporove/disapporve is is just charisma or persuation affects prices too?

Cast the charm spell friend on the trader first. But it doesn't reduce the price in any significant way. In these "rpg" games prices are always hiked through the roof. It's a real shame that developers think like this.

I'd suggest don't buy anything from any trader ever except maybe heal potions, trap and lock picks.

It prob gonna be like divinity, where sure u need to use gold for skills/consumables but equipment is to expensive and often only slightly better then what you got and the best equipment is found.

In core 5e buying prices for common items are fixed. Only selling prices are variable.
