Anyone that thinks Charmperson is a wasted spellslot
I have used both 1st and 2nd level Charmperson. And the only thing it really does is not attack the caster. But all of the other enemies does instead.

In the real DnD 5E its uses seldom focus on combat. Maybe there are few opportunities to apply it in early access.

However, a Barbarian multiclass should be in the game for optimal experience.

It's D&D rules, it is how it is.

For a spell you get access to so early it can be useful, especially in situations where that one charmed enemy is really far away from the rest of your team and does not have ways to attack them on their next turn.

Can you use it before a trade or situation with dialoge, does it give me an extra dice in the dialoge? Otherwise is Shadowhearts domain choice utterly useless.

A barbarian with charm person? Sounds like a tough challenge.

Does it affect the selling prices at vendors?

This I also want to know. I know using Will to sell and buy stuff is better prices. And using the cantrip that gives you a better skill roll.

TBH 5e have pretty much spells that's waste of spellslot. Many of them is "traps" by description they looks good but in fact giving your only trouble.
Only advice i can give - try exclude "situational" spells from your list. On other side you can change prepeared spell at any time(which is imposible in original 5e) so you can allow youself pick some spells just to amuse yourself(IF you are wizard).

I used charm 1 time, then abandoned it right after. Used it on the caged goblin. She acted like I wasn't a friend. What's the point of the spell if it doesn't cause characters to regard you as a friendly acquaintance? Plus, since you can't cast spells in the middle of dialogue, then you pretty much have to cast it on every single character before you think about talking to them. Why not risk having them attack if they catch your somatic component?

Note in D&D the person charmed knows it is charmed and while it has some effect , next time the characters get together it may consider it as a insult or hostile action
