Developers these days get a lot of pressure to be aware of social issues from lots of different kinds of pressure groups in modern times. I guarantee you no one wanted this to go mainstream for this exact reason... All these feminist and BLM groups are an unfortunate oversight from just-so-happeningly roping in so many hundred millions of people.

Your companions are not primarily there to cater to your romance dreams with a selection of attractive (wo)men. I love Lae'zal's attitude, it's great having companions who have their own goals and barely care what you think initially. Morrigan was much the same in Dragon Age.

There will be more traditional neutral and good companions along later. When we created our characters we were asked who we dreamed about at night, weren't we. That hasn't been relevant to anything yet so it could easily be Larian canvassing ideas of the kind of other companions we'd like to see.

People have this idea that developers can just do what they want, they can't.

If the developers put sexy females in the game they will have armies of people attacking them on social media, far left journalists will attack them and they will be shunned by many others in the industry. This is the world we live in, it's easy to just tone if back and live a peaceful life.

Just look how thew developers of Kingdom Come Deliverance were treated for not following the SJW line, even mortal kombat has to bend the knee out of fear.
