Spoilers for Underdark Encounter!
I repeat, there are spoilers for an encounter in the underdark related to drow. Read at your own risk!
So, I made it through quite a bit of the underdark and found a spectator (the 2nd in the game I've found) around a big group of petrified drow. I wanted to try to save the drow to see if they have any bit of conversation since... I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ love the drow. However, they immediately attack. I'm honestly really disappointed that there wasn't a chance to speak with them after saving them from petrification to be honest... you were even given basilisk oil on the path leading up to the encounter for the chance to save them. The Spectator releases them from petrification if you can't kill it in 1 round and then charms the drow, however even after the charm fades they will just attack you.

Pretty disappointed with this encounter. I've tried a few things, and nothing worked. I guess we'll see what happens in a few updates.

They're lolthsworn drow + they were petrified in the middle of the battle. You were expecting them to talk considering their circumstances and who they are? You're a potential slave to them at best.

Still would've been nice to have that conversation, especially since them being neutral during the battle (yellow) is a bit of a tease.

After killing the Spectator I tried to charm her and did so successfully although it didn't seem to actually matter, she was still hostile... which is really odd seeing as how the Charm spell is supposed to work...

I agree that they need to change/polish that encounter quite a bit.

I'm making a Lolth-Sworn Drow and will give it another shot.

I expect to be disappointed.

Charm is affecting between only caster and target. So target cant attack caster but it can attack companions. Personally i couldnt find a way to turn a hostile to neutral.

Yes I would expect to be also because Lolth sworn are notorious for attacking other drow parties as long as they leave no witnesses to accuse their house of wrong doing even more so if you attack a higher house and fail.

I was originally playing as a Lolth-sworn drow and I know the culture for them. Even running a campaign based heavily around the first few legend of drizzt books where players take the role of nobles in a single noble house.

The game is super good, I'm not denying that. And there doesn't NEED to be a conversation there but as a Drow lover, I want to talk to more of em! Minthara is nice if you're playing the evil route but theres none for the 'good' route.

yeah they are not cool at all as it is.
found two potions to cure petrified status but if i administer the potion to a petrified drow they just start blasting.

youd think hed be happy to not be a stone anymore... nah.

I was in a Menzoberranzan game where we were all drow nobles. It was a ton of fun getting to explore the twisted machinations of the city. I was also somewhat disappointed with the inability to talk to them. Even speak with dead yielded nothing, not even a reference to the nearby temple.

I don't really remember what all loot was there but I think those drow were part of the attack on the temple or something. There should be a note nearby that talks about it but I could be remembering it wrong. But yeah theres not much to that encounter, it might be unfinished. At least thats what my hopes tell me, that there is more to that encounter than we're getting. Like an npc tells you about petrified drow and you can go over there to save/kill them. Perhaps you can even put that Spectator in the iron flask if you kill the other.
As good as Larian is, I'm not super hopeful on that encounter. However, nearly every single encounter in the game feels like it has some story relevance related to the game's current plot. Even the random gnoll groups that you find in the north, they're also serving the absolute.

Ah, that's my bad for not reading the description well enough I guess. I wonder if it would make a difference either way though.

Yea i was annoyed that they were hostile when your free them from the spectator when i was playing as evil drow and considered same side as them
Wraith Oct 17, 2020 @ 12:29pm
Anyone use the basilisk oil or whatever it called to unpetrify her and not let the spectator do it?

I don't think that they side with the absolute since they were frozen LONG ago, during the attack on the underground temple most likely. My guess is that there would be a fight encounter regardless of if you talk to them or not. Its still a cool fight if you don't cheese the spectator like i did. I had my entire party sneak up there and blasted him with everything from stealth after he showed up. He was surprised so we got 2 rounds on him. He didn't even get to act lol.
