It does give advantage in converstation thuogh. Just sucks for combat.
Play Pillars of Eternity
Unless I'm misninterperting things, the out of combat use of charm has been made obsolete by friends, because friends no longer has the clause where the target gets upset at you when it expires.
One of the spells definitely needs a tweak for BG3.
It is the first Dungeons and Dragons CRPG I've played where Charm Person is completely useless.
Charm Person, when it DOES work, will NOT make them attack your enemies, like it does in every other D&D computer game. They simply will cease attacking you. AND they will keep their distance from you, as if they still regard you as hostile.
Seriously, how do you mess up CHARM PERSON in a D&D CRPG?!?!!?
Charm Person is supposed to work for humanoids regardless of hostility.
That's a difference so small it's not worth the spell slot.
Also, the Charmed condition only means that the charmed target won't harm the charmer. They can still harm the party, according to D&D.
Also, anyone notice that shield is missing? Isn't the shield spell Eldrich Knight 101? It's especially odd since defensive duelist is basically a weaker version of the spell-- though there is maybe some sign they have problems getting it right, because Defensive Duelist is only supposed to trigger if you are going to get hit (like shield). Instead they have it going off if you get attacked.
I don't know the new D&D rules so maybe this is just how the spell works now. I don't think I've played since 2.5 or maybe 3, what are they at now 5? I'm sure a lot has changed.
Charmed
A charmed creature can’t Attack the charmer or target the charmer with harmful Abilities or magical Effects.
The charmer has advantage on any ability check to interact socially with the creature.
Well, its one of those things when you are dealing with converting a D&D spell to a combat-based game.
Charm Person hasn't changed since the game started. The idea is that you magically alter somebody's mind to regard you as a good and trusted friend. You won't do something absolutely reprehensible for that person, but you WILL go out of your way for that person.
Naturally, this is not really as applicable in a computer game as it is in a roleplaying game environment. So traditionally, charm person just temporarily turns a combatant on your side. That's how is has always worked.
