Larian used their engine for a baldurs gate game
And it feels like a DOS Game.

*shocked pikachu face*

If you want a more 'traditional' crpg experience, go play pathfinder kingmaker.

It feels like DOS because DOS was trying to emulate Dungeons & Dragons and this is literally Dungeons & Dragons.

And its wonderful
it's much more advanced than the dos2 engine.

I love DOS and I love this game, so I have no problems with it.

That game is so good, and so underrated. Must have been because it had a bad start. But talk about polish. I would say Kingmaker is very close to a Baldur's gate game.

i mean personally this EA has me so hyped for the full release in 2-5 years. the game is beautiful and its going to be a solid game on release just like DOS2.

DoS 2 was only in early access for about a year I think. Sept 2017 - 2018, no?

I absolutely hated pathfinder kingmaker. Gave it so many chances but I just had zero fun at all.

Game does feel like its supposed to be DOS3 though.

I played Kingmaker. I can't really recommend it. It started out okay, but as soon as the game gets to the city management portion it completely falls apart. That's being generous, the game was a buggy mess, it crashed on me repeatedly, corrupted my saves and eventually got to a point it bugged out so bad the game just couldn't be advanced. I couldn't even refund it by the time I ran into the issue that stopped all progression.

People insisted it had been fixed, I came back a year later, talked about how it was bug free. I was like, okay, it's in my library, I can't refund it. I'll give it another chance, and, it wasn't fixed. It was still so bugged I had to do a registry edit myself (and any game that requires a reg edit by the player is in an unforgivable state) to get it running at all. It was in this state for ages, until very recently, the forum filled with players going, "not affecting me, it's rare" but for that entire span the people that had that same issue popped up almost constantly.

I ended up getting to thing to actually work more recently, so I could actually play it up to the city management portion, which I'd never experienced before. I was actually excited, but, that entire system was a complete mess. I had someone recommend this guide, so I took a look at it, and it was just filled with information the game never taught you. I can't fathom a game developer so inept that they filled their game with systems that the game never taught the player how to use, or why. If you follow the guides it works fine, but playing it without them? It's just a bunch of nonsense the game never teaches you to interact with, and the story/characters all fall apart at this point to.

I dropped it, hard. I still wish I could have refunded the thing, but the game stopping bug from back in the day was too far in. I'd played too long.

I don't know why anyone is excited for another game from the Pathfinder: Kingmaker devs. They left that game in a horrendous, buggy and near unplayable state for ages, and ages. Even in the state it is now, where it's playable, it's still got a ton of bugs, and while the basic combat/gameplay works (I'd even say it has lots of promise and potential), the story, characters and city management run the entire experience straight into the ground - and I say that as someone that usually spends ages on Keeps and other 'player owned castle/city/etc' in other games, including DnD games.

The game was a buggy mess early on, but now that it's had some time it's pretty well polished. I agree though, I could have done without the city management aspect. Kind of took away of the flow of story/progression/ and character building. It was unique, just not needed.

although the ruleset is different, Pillars of Eternity is far more similar to Baldurs Gate than anything else so far.

yes, used the engine, not really a big deal, its an engine that is designed for turn based, which D&D is, and made it easy to apply the 5e rules to, making it feel like a D&D game.

so where is the issue
