Str if you want to swing 2handed weapon ( would pick the ranger option that give heavy armor instead of mage breaker since you will lose ac from missing on dex)
Both can work but most would go dex
Does dual wield have to be a finesse weapon for dex? Or can it be any 1 handed weapon dual wielded?
Cheers
I find that if I used 2 melee and 1 range and 1 support your party is good. The Support is both ranged and melee cleric. Range I would pick a Warlock (player character) over a Ranger - PERSONALLY. Warlocks use charisma to boost their magic and they get a cantrip called eldritch blast, which you can cast on every turn and does not use a spell slot to do so... it does 1D10 of damage and at level 2 you can buff it to do +your charisma modifier. So 1D10+CHA And you can use other spells in a pinch for other reasons.
A good second level spell to get is HEX. It takes a bonus action to cast (if you cast a spell as a BONUS action you can not cast a normal spell - however, cantrips are not considered "spells" and you can cast them). It will give a target a weakness and you will do extra damage to the target with your warlock every time you hit it... and when the target dies you can re-cast it as a bonus action to a different target.
Best of all, warlocks re-gain their 2 spell slots on short rests or long rests... so using a short rest will re-set your spells.
