Devs said there yould be references to it. Also you will visit Baldur's Gate later in the game. That said, I hope they add more story links to it. Otherwise it smells like only choosing the name for brand recognition.
I haven't played far enough into this one to see if the city is in game yet. I'm avoiding spoilers of course. Enjoy the rest of your gaming experience if you choose to do so.
the opening city in the cutscene is not Baldur's Gate, I forgot the exact name but fairly sure Sven mentioned that it isn't
The city in the opening cutscene is called Yartar. It is a city that straddles a river. It is known for its barge building industry. (I know this because I DM'd Storm King Thunder and the city was in that campaign.
Also Baldur's Gate I believe is later in the adventure, you need to get there first which I think is Act 1. (Also the City of Baldur's gate is suppose to be huge so I imagine it will take a while to actually finish the area for the developers)
I think he meant this game doesn't feel at all like a baldur's gate game.
I agree with the sentiment as well. Played about 6 hours and all I keep feeling is divinity original sin :(
He can't read the title. :(
I'm presuming a lot of areas are missing, but that insert on the left hand side looks like Baldur's Gate to me.
Ahh! Okay thank you I understand now. I think it can depend if you played the prior Baldur's Game games. If you are like me I tried the older ones and just could not get into it. (I tried them years after they originally came out so probably the reason why). I recently played Divinity and Pillars of Eternity so I compare this game to the gameplay from those and I relate more favourably that way.
Maybe that could be the issue here, the game is marketed as a sequel to the Baldur's Gate games of old but gameplay wise they are a sequel of Divinity Original Sin. If you never played the original games you don't have anything to compare this game to.
