Can someone explain "advantage" when doing a roll?

Doesn't it always use the highest roll? why does it say "advantage" and then give that description? What's the difference between that and a normal roll?

you roll 2 dice, and keep the highest roll. same with disadvantage, only opposite.

A normal roll is a single die, advantage is roll two dice and take highest, disadvantage is roll two dice and take lowest. Simply all it is.

I thought the 1d meant 1 dice roll, wouldn't it say 2d then?
Without advantage you just roll 1 dice and get whatever It gives, with advantage you roll 2 dices and get to use the higher. In the game if you have advantage and you pass the check with the first dice you won't see the second roll because It isn't necessary.
Roll with "advantage" means you roll twice, and pick the highest number.

Because 2d means you roll two different dice and add the result together

Advantage means you roll the same dice, twice (not two different dice) and take the higher result of the two rolls (only 1 number)

When something use 2d it implies the 2 dices are added up.
With advantage you are supposed to roll twice and pick highest.
Wahts wrong with descibtion?

No, 2d means you roll 2 dice and combine them for a final result.
Alright. Thanks for the replies, everyone. Helped a lot.

Ish but it can get confusing depending on precise wording. Saying you roll 2d20 might imply you are adding up the results of both dice. Writing "You roll 1d20 die + modifiers twice and keep the highest result" can be a bit wordy for a tooltip. It'll be something do UX designer spends awhile deciding on.

Yeah you are correct. so its a bug maybe? Or they havent gotten far enough. There are some things they could do with the dice roller. Like making the + more obvious.
