5e vs 3.5
This is an age old discussion, the Honest truth is D&D 5e is the entry lvl System it is much easyer to understand and less governed by rules, while 3.5/Pathfinder allows for much more indepth character costumisation, you pick a race, that race has variations with much bigger impact like darkvision or beeing able to breathe underwater or to walk in the sun for a Dhampir for example,
Then there are hundreds of traits and feats, Favorite class bonus multiclassing prestige class mythic lvls like 10-like 30 archetypes per class It is all quite overwhelming.

You can build and Tailor your Character into the Hero Villain or whatever you want him to be, obviously this can cause less experienced players to build trash builds or Experienced ones downright broken ones.

In the end:
It is a matter of taste do you want Costumization and rules and Substance or do you want a Easy to get into and enjoyable game.

There is obviously a bit of a inferiority complex with the 5e community which they don't like to admit that the other system is just to complicated and hard, which causes a lot of friction.

Sorry 5e but u guys are just casuals and that is okay 5e is your market and not everyone needs to have a Indepth game that requires time and bit of work to understand.

DoS2 is probably the most abusive game...
That is true, but it does not mean it has much gameplay depth, because basically everything works.
everything works according to game logic. As the great liar of our time said, it just works
As a player in 2nd edition, 3rd edition (I feel bad for those who think 3.5 is a version, not just someone throwing a wobbly over 3rd) and 5th I can spend just as much time designing character's each edition.

3rd was just about adding up the +1s from designing the craziest feat combinations coupled with as many buffs as you can muster.
5th is all about setting up the highest damage per turn from your choices, which is much harder than half orc spring attack spiked chain master.

And I do miss Thac0 or looking up tables for save vs breath weapon... but ultimately each edition is appealing for different reasons.. none of which are worthy of the derogatory 'casuals' argument.
You're all wrong. 1st edition was the pinnacle, its all been downhill from there.

I think 5e is nice for a fun laidback tabletop experience. For video games I prefer to get crunchy and BG3 is really making me miss Pathfinder:Kingmaker.
In the same boat, when I first played Kingmaker I clocked 35 hours in four days alot of those were spend trying class hybrids and different builds, I feel much more restricted in BG3

Agreed. That game really sucked me in and didn't let go. I haven't really found any compelling reason in BG3 yet to keep playing. Maybe it's a slow burner and the plot picks up later.

You mean Chainmail, the precursor to 1st edition making things worse?
The way I see it, the direction Wizards of the Coast decided to go is away from the complexity of 3.5. Pathfinder however embraced the 3.5ness and made Pathfinder 1e which is effectively dnd 3.75 under their Golarian setting.

That said, While I do wish the Larianisms were taken out of Baldur's Gate III I ultimately realize that the experience from this game will not be like Kingmaker or other Infinity Engine style games. This is going to be more like Divinity Original Sins 2 with an early access DND 5e paint job.

What I am expecting after this early access period is the changing of sounds and UI/art assets to deviate from Divinity Original Sins, Adding more spells and abilities while tweaking them to remove more environment effects that these abilities definitely don't have in the tabletop version.

If DOS2 doesn't have much depth then neither does 99.9999% of games so what is really expected?
