Alright, so click on your character's portrait in the bottom left and drag it to the furthest left side of the screen DIRECTLY next to your other companions portraits. Once you do this ensure there is NO space between any of their portraits, otherwise that means that they aren't partied up, and in turn will not follow you around.

Are they partied up with you, or is your portrait in the bottom left spaced away from them? I don't mean to sound dumb by asking, it's just that some people haven't played games like this before

They're like a cm apart - we jumped down into those ruins at the start by dropping the stone and I had to do it one by one, after the fight they dont group up anymore

Yes, I had this too, It seems to be a mechanic for being able to separate the party. Just bring all of them together in one place, then you can push the portraits together, too, and all of them will follow you. One of the more awkward GUI mechanics.

For controller press LT to go to your group list, move the cursor to the one you want, then at bottom of screen it tells you how to gorup ungroup. X will group the current selected and Y will split them from the group.
