Here's how it works in 5E.
You have spell slots. You only need to prepare a spell once, and you can cast any spell you have prepared for the number of spell slots you have.
Say you have 1st and 2nd level spells. For every 1st level spell you have, you can cast them (your choice) if you have them prepared for how many first spell slots, as well as 2nd spell slots for a more powerful affects, and each 2nd level spell for each 2nd level spell slot you have and any above that for a more powerful affect.
However, Wizards and Clerics need to prepare and have specific spells known and placed in the slot.
There is a bit of variation on how exactly it works for each class, but generally that's how it works.
Yes, but you need to only prepare it once.
Any spell you have prepared for the day (druid, clerics and wizards) can be cast as many times as you have spell slots.
So, you can prepare mage armor and magic missile, but if you only have 1 spell slot for that level, you can only cast 1, of those spells, not both... till the spell slot is restored (usually long rest)
