debug profile
So I have a profile that's debug_client_profile_1 in game and I cannot change it to my default profile so I basically can't load my game or do anything other than create new... can't switch to my profile or delete the debug profile as it's in use... what do I do?

I assume this was after a game Crash where it asked you to submit a Crash report? or is that just me.

I think I found a loophole so it's worth a shot to post, but I changed how I launched the game and it seemed to reset the profile.

i.e. I switched from Vulcan to Direct X 11 [in the launch window press the gear button and switch then repress gear and click launch]

I figured a workaround although it did cause another crash. You make another profile and switch to it, then delete the debug profile (game crashed). Reopen the game and it let me switch to my original profile and load the game again.

This is still an issue

TL;DR = I deleted the Debug_Client_Profile_1 folder from the C:\Users\[your windows username]\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles location and it started loading my saved games appropriately.

The long story...

The past 4 days I was having an issue with every time I launch the game it brought up a weird subset of old saves that aren't even in my actual filepath where my saved games are stored, which is C:\Users\[your windows username]\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles\Public\Savegames\Story

I could see all my correct saved games in that location, but it was bringing up a different set of filenames, so I figured they HAD to be coming from somewhere. When I did a Windows search for the filenames I could see, I found them in this location: C:\Users\[windows username]\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles\Debug_Client_Profile_1\Savegames\Story

Somehow at some point the game had created this Debug_Client_Profile_1 player profile and that was the default one the game was looking to when launched. I simply deleted that whole Debug_Client_Profile_1 folder from the PlayerProfiles directory and next time I launched the game it used the "Public" folder that contained my actual saves and things have seemed fine since. I'm nervous that the game will just do this again though on its own and might become an issue again?

Harmless. See here

Experienced PC users can also attempt to terminate the stuck task via taskmanager. The issue is especially dominant by those who use the Larian Launcher to launch the game, hence the recommendation to skip it.

I recommend method C from here
