OwlBear
So i ran into the owlbear. I have the animal ablity but it will just go right into fight phase without any dialog. Any way to change this? Seems like the Devs video they were able to study them and avoid them.

Yes i know. Did you see the video where the devs said we can avoid it or have animal handling option? Im wondering about that.

It's because Owlbears aren't classified as animals in D&D. They are classified as monstrosities. Animal handling won't help you with them.

Right mouseclick and view his stats, maybe you're to low level for now.

umm, there is a video where the devs use that skills to study them/avoid them.

Might have been changed since to be more accurate to the source material.

Owlbears are monstrosities and not beasts. What applies to "animals" is usually meaning beasts, monstrosities don't work for these kind of things.

Then maybe you have to use it before approaching them? I don't know, I just know what's in the rulebook for 5e.

Do you have the Speak With Animals spell active, or just in your spell list? Because you need to cast it before it works. The spell's effects last until a long rest.

And yes, Speak With Animals does work on the Owlbear.

Owlbears arent beast, they are monstrosity, like the Worgs, so spells that affect beast wont work, based on dnd rules, so i haven't tried to communicate or used animal friendship.

you do have to indeed cast animal speaking before getting close, that first encounter i went threw every dialogue option to try to get the owlbear cub and its not possible in the first encounter you get the cub later. animal speaking also requires concentration so if you get hit in combat it breaks most of the time.

i would assume they might add some way to bond with animals in your camp - in the full release if i can manage to summon a owlbear by having him in my camp and keeping im happy its going to be a instant 10/10

I have encountered it, and Speak With Animals does work.

It's probably a simplification for the adaptation because they don't expect players to have to use all their spell slots for "Speak With Animals", "Speak with Beasts", "Speak with Abberations", "Speak with Monstrosities", "Speak with Undead", etc.

In Dnd the Owlbear is a monstrosity and not a beast, this immune to animal friendship
