I keep skipping turns in battle!
When two characters have a turn at the same time, and you press spacebar it ends both their turns, even if you only moved one. Anyone know of a way to stop this from happening, besides remembering to move both characters before hitting space?

It’s EA. Bugs are going to be part of the experience.

Good feedback. I've had this happen several times. It is rather annoying to lose whole turns/actions because of this bug.

there is a small tutorial mention about shared initiative, but it is very poorly done, and easy to forget about. what basically needs to be done is you have to click the portrait to have that char take its turn, otherwise you are ending the turn for both characters.

I actually thought the same thing until I realized that multiple characters can share the same initiative. This is different from most games and seems like it skips characters turns, but it actually doesn't.

You will see the character's turn in the combat line up move up a little indicating it is their turn. What BG3 does is sometimes shows two or more character move up indicating they share an initiative /turn. You click on each of the character and perform their action prior to hitting the End Turn button. If you hit the End Turn button prior to clicking on the second character, it assumes that you do not want that character to do anything and skips to the next character in the combat lineup.

I am not sure if this is how it is intended to play or a bug, but I have now gotten used to it and like the fact that it gives me flexibility in who does what first.

While I don't think the way it is handled is the best, I understand why -- because if they have shared initiative, you can move either one first -- I like it when I have asterion and another PC sharing initiative, so I can move the non-rogue PC first to set up a sneak attack situation.

But it could be done better, as I, too, have lost turns by mistake.

usually for me it only does this if I move the last character. In aother word intiative is A(ally) B(ally) c(enemey).

On As turn if I switch to B and hit the spacebar it goes to C. Or if I switch to B and then back to A and then hit the space bar it goes to C. If I just move A and hit the space bar it goes to B generally for me .... and I can still go back and do things with A to boot.

In any case the best thing to do is just complete everything you need before you hit the space bar.

The shared initiative is purposeful, but they should make the "spacebar" skip happen for both characters.

It only skips all of them if you press spacebar on the last one in line. Unless something changed with the new patch.

Thanks for the explanations above :) I was hitting this a lot and wondering why!!! Definitely seems like it needs some ironing out, but does seem to be something around how the shared initiative isn't quite working how it should. Will try to remember to click on the next portrait now before ending turn. Thanks all that gave tips on this :)

Yeah, I think this is what does it for me, too. If I just take turns in order I don't seem to notice any issue, but if I just move B then hit space it will skip A.

Maybe space shouldn't end the turn for everyone who can move, but end the turn for the selected character. If B goes and I hit space, it should switch to A and let them have a turn instead of skipping them.
