Wizard is almost useless in early game

Wizard is a total glass cannon- and you’re not even close to being a cannon at start. Shouldn’t it be buffed? Or am I just horrible at playing wizard? I do ok on every other class.

A wizard isn't useless. They have actions you can use to make them contribute something.

A wizard is probably weakest unless it's an EA specific gimmick build that wouldn't be powerful in the full game and relies on out of game knowledge that specific items exist and are easily attained.

Never said a standard solo wizard couldn't beat it either. I said weakest. That's a relative term.

The game is beatable without a class at all as long as you could stealth and shoot.

Solo? You mean exploit the cast/hide mechanic? lol. That's like the rangers shoot bow/hide mechanic exploit.. just wait when they fix it with you can only hide once per combat or something.. then we'll see you soloing the goblin fortress..

They are great at dying..

That's actually a skillset. Death tanking. One character takes the hits and falls over and over, one character uses help up, the other two win the fight.

Hey Martin, get Larian to remove the hide mechanics, kkthx?
Get them to remove the gimmick exploit of going invis and pushing everything off cliffs, etc. and STILL remaining in invis while you are at it.

Get them to remove anything and everything you and others consider exploits and I will still solo wreck EA Act 1 with a wizard.....bet.

They'll find a way I'm sure. Like give every sodding gobbo and minotaur a str of 20 and require us to roll against it or something.

My favourite is cast ice under them or grease.. then shove em. They really fly then.

If you think that's bad, you should try 2e lv.1 wiz.

Considering the fact its the streamlined 5e and there is no base attack bonus increasing or bonus feats to get if anything wizard is the strongest class by far with a lvl 4 cap.

The issue is 100% on your end for building it wrong.

Nope, level 4 feat.
Just an FYI, you can get a wizard tank up to AC 30 with the level 4 feat coupled with mirror image. Game goes stupid after that with soime encounters cause they wont attack you but sit there an roar or whatever.

What jump and featherfall? dodge and run around everything, get to end and then claim you've solo'd it? Come on.. speed runs aren't completing games.. they're just getting from a - b..

I don't speed run, period.
Save for most of Druids Grove, I kill virtually everything in EA Act 1 to include rats..........

Anyone who played BG1 or 2 (or any edition of D&D prior to 5 [let's pretend 4 never existed]) is laughing because early level wizards in 5e are sooooooo much stronger than early level wizards in prior games/editions. It used to be use your one or two spells for the day then I hope you like throwing darts. Wizards have always been most clear example of a grower not a shower in D&D by design.

The Sleep spell is hugely useful in the early game. There are some enemies that are immune to it but it's great at taking an enemy completely out of a fight until you want to deal with them.
