Still i suggest a quick read on the D&D wiki about mind flayers(helps to know why they are so scary) and a quick read on the race and class your interested in.
Just the basic's really.
Beyond that no.
It is best to gain suchs knowledge by playing and research what you find interesting.
The lore is vast.
It takes years to learn it all.
As for world lore, it's not 100% necessary. It might help you understand races and places, but the game will probably do a good job of explaining them to you as well if you don't already know much D&D lore.

If you're lost, then the game has failed... I know it has 3 in it, but this will be the first Baldur's Gate game for a TON of people and they're treating it as a new entry point. You won't be lost, don't worry.
