If you don't like some option the game offers you don't have to pick it, you are not forced to romance anyone and can skip that part of the game if it doesn't interest you.

if you played the past BG games you'd know there was a point to romancing companions,,,romancing or basically just working on your relationship

if you romanced ....i believe it was Viconia
you can slowly re-align her from neutral evil to neutral lawful
i think it also added/unlocked more backstory for her i cant be 100% sure...

i know wheres someone in BG that you can change her viewpoints if you worked with her long enough,,, i just cant be 100% sure who it is

its been that long since i played BG i sadly forgot which :(

Spoken like a true socipath, incapable of emotions or bonding. What better way to make you grow attached to the characters - and invested in them?

It's D&D. For most it's expected. I have yet to come out of a D&D session where at least one player hasn't asked the "is he/she hot?" regarding an NPC or tried to take an NPC upstairs in the tavern for the night. It's just in the nature of people to want these types of connections, even if it's simulated in a game.

(In fact, now that I think about it, to date, I don't think I've ever DM'ed a D&D game and didn't have a player do this. I've been DM'ing since 2000)

Did you read my second paragraph? It depends on how it is incorporated. If it is in-your-face it can be pretty hard to ignore.

And of course even if I ignore it, some who are more vulnerable won't and we all know how problematic many of the depictions of in-game "romance" have been in the past.

I did and wasn't moved. Ever since Bioware started this trend there have been a small loud mouthed group of fans who exist just to be contrarian. You act as if the NPC's are throwing their naked bodies on your lap against your wishes when almost always you can shut it down with "Let's just be friends".

If it bugs you people that much then just don't play the game. How can it get simpler then that?

This isn't Mass Effect. It should work like other BG games in the passed. The NPC will "flirt" or "make a move" and you either go with it, or you reject it. Reject it and that'll be the end of it. Unless the NPC is Aerie :-P
