My name is Driz'el!
IT MEANS 'THE GREAT SCOURGE IN ELVEN!
Black Mage: The great scourge of having a stupid name!
(Gods, I miss 8-Bit Theater)
I think i got the Salvatore writing down reasonably ;)
Interesting view. You do realize much of the series took place outside the Underdark?? Also that he had a group of people with him, that aided him? Katy Brea, Regis, Wulgar, Bruenor are the main stays, as well reoccuring ones. At other times he had an army backing him up. Note an army backing him up instead of soloing an entire army as in the case of most books. Also the books were originally note going to be about him, though he was going to be a part of them.
Not to mention the fact the series was his, and his friends journey how they matured from what they had been to what they eventually became. It also told the story of the Gods and how they used champions to try and further there own agendas.
these are just small cliff notes, and asides in a couple of the books. I can keep putting more up there are in fact hundreds of things that are going on in the Series. then again that would mean you'd have to stop being jealous and read them.
But please keep derping along, I do like reading.
I was poking fun at R.A. Salvatore's writing of the Drizzt character when he starts describing Drizzt in action. Pretty funny you couldn't see the obvious, but please keep derping along, i do like reading.
Hey don't tell me how to troll when I'm bored!!
seriously though I felt the remembered pain of Drizzts fighting style, much akin to Witchers all the spinny mcflippies and stuff. I much prefered the battle ragers, or wulfgars choked goblins of bludgeoning.
He was attacking Salvatores writing style not the contents. Though there's room to do that too.
I think it helps to take a longer view of media with some of this stuff. A lot of D&D inspired and was inspired by the sword and sorcery style films many decades back. It was all very cartooney stuff. There's nothing wrong with cartooney stuff. But media definitely kept going through trends and that is not currently the trend. Something more like Game of Thrones is with either competing selfish/dark factions or shades of grey or whatever.
It'll probably come back around though. Most trends do. A lot of older media that popularized the straightforward good/evil and straightforward archetype following in modern times was a response to another period of shades of grey media right behind it. Part of why, say, Star Wars worked was because it was a time ripe for some straightforward good/evil in media.
