Character creation stats value.
hi when i saw your first game play video i notice that during character creation you can have 27 point of distribute on your stats which is the same system based on e 5 character creation

however for e5 character creation player have the option to roll 4 six sided dice and take the high 3 for stats instead of the point distribution system

i was wondering if you can implement the random roll system in to character creation, because the expected value of the rolling system in e5 is much higher at 14.85 as oppose to the point distribution system of 13 13 13 12 12 12.

the distribution system always feel like a protection system for players from the worst possible rolls instead of a replacement for the dice rolling stats system.

the issue with rolls in a PC game is that you can just redo them till you get max scores and they is no reason not to, having to pick what you are good at its fine for DnD 5th

People will find ways to minmax, I doubt we will only have 13 13 13 12 12 12's as our stats Thats far too low, and your not even considering racial bonuses.

The problem is, this being a video game and not a table top, rolled stats can seriously mess with the game balance, since the can't adjust difficulty on the fly like a human DM can. With Point Buy, devs have a baseline stats they can work with, instead of having to plan for some people (with cRPG, realistically anyone who has the patience to reroll ad nauseum) ending up with super stats.

Also I hate rolled stats, but that's just me.

using the point buy he is talking about max is 15 (without race bonus) DnD 5th is a low stats game with the highest stats can be is 20 (yes there is two ways to get higher barbarians can get +4 to max str and con at level 20, so no in game and a magic item can be used to up it for one stat up to two time, unlikely to be in the game)

They have stated there will be multiple ways to roll stats including point buy, standard array and random roll and distribute. All are viable systems with positives and negs. Random roll is the most powerful in a video game because you can just keep rolling.

In AD&D highest possible roll is 108. In BG, you rarely roll over 90. My highest roll in BG was 98. It is boring to click and I get pi**ed off if I overshoot high-roll. 3/3.5e character stat distribution like in NWN/NWN2 is good imo. If they give us options I don't mind, but I would mind if rolling is the only option.
