Do you ever regret buying something in early access?
I've never done it before. I'm kind of old-school like that because games were not digital in the 90s, so most of the games I played didn't change a lot after coming on the retail store shelf. I waited for DoS 1, and I played part of OS2 classic before putting it away until a few months ago when I decided to rediscover the thing again after forgetting damn near everything I played 2 years ago.

Is there any chance of you not buying the game on release? If yes, don't buy during EA, if there isn't then it doesn't really make a difference whether you buy during EA or not. You might even get a better deal.

Personally, I've only bought two games during EA and I haven't really regretted either purchase. However, there are a ton of EA games that are garbage/stuck in development hell etc. As for BG3 I'm pretty confident in saying that it won't be a "bad" EA purchase, but again for some people it's the principle of not buying unfinished products or w/e

I rarely do it, but you gotta remember you're not buying a game, you're buying into an ongoing project that might not get done and might not get done the way you want. It's to show support and give feedback more than to get a thing for your money.
Too many gamers think Early Access is just buying a game sooner.

With BG3, I doubt you need to worry about the game never coming out, so it's probably down to whether or not you want to play an unfinished portion early, or play the whole thing at once after it's all done.

I bought Stoneshard early access because I thought the game looks cool which it is but it is lacking a lot of things which made me regret buying the early access and not complete the game. By no means the game is bad, it is really good but I wish all the promised features were available in it like different classes and skills (they will be available once the game finishes).

However, BG3 early access is a bit different since it is promising a full game play of the first act with few things missing which I'm going to assume they won't add all the classes and skills but that's fine imo since it is only the first act.

Does kickstarter counts as EA? as if it does then yes i do buy them... did so with Dos1 never finished the game though. so who knows... Lets say for pathfinder kingmaker 2 i didn't do it as the first release was a disaster. i see it more as a support for the dev...
but if they ♥♥♥♥ up one time they got to make up... even a donkey only steps on ice once!

I got a couple of games on ea like 7 years ago. They are still on ea believe it or not. Although I seriously doubt this will happen with bg3.

I can believe it. LOL

I feel like EA just makes dev's complacent while just releasing few minor patches every now and then

Never bought anything on ea before, as I am kind of against it with all the ea games on steam who just stays ea games forever... will probably buy bg3 in ea as I can’t wait and have complete confidence in larian nor screwing us over!

Once or twice. Both times were highly disappointing, though the first one was generally panned by everyone. Other Early Access games I bought into were fantastic and only got better.

I bought ea once, and it was Quake Champions because I am a huge Quake fan. Top 5 best games and franchises of all time on my list and I probably have 10k++ hours in the last 20+ years I've played the games. QC is still in ea 3 years later and a massive disappointment. Everything that made Quake great is gone. And I blame Bethesda and ID software's B team. I went so far I permanently removed the game from my library. And I preordered the game once as well, Diablo III, and we all know how disappointing that was.

Nope. I think the closet to regret was starbound but i got a lot out of that and its still not a bad game. EA is generally ok if you go in knowing what the expect and like the game and what they are doing and would enjoy it with more polish and content and are willing to wait. DOS2 was one of the better EA i have done so BG3 i am pretty sure will not be an issue

Yes! But only once so far. --> Mount & Blade - Bannerlord. I regret it because seeing the updates and prioritization being made by the design team / management gives me reason to believe this game will never amount to anything.

I usually only buy major releases in EA- games I have a good idea will be completed and released.

I also, bought Bannerlord. Yes, the game is a mess. However, it's fun AF also. I got 100 hours out of it then uninstalled. I'll go back to it in a year or 18 months and see what it's become. I don't regret the purchase at all, plus I got it for 20% off.

How is the modding for it? No interest in online but mount and blade modding was always fantastic although janky because of the engine.
