comments from devs so far seem to be core book only
It is a class and has been since 3.5, but not really a core class because WotC don't really know what to do with the concept of alchemy as we understand it from video games. Presently it's an artificer variant that kinda exists between being supplemental content and official main line content (mainly introduced for a specific scenario).
As it is though, it'll be a miracle if Larian can actually realize all the core classes as presented in the Player Handbook so that's probably what they're aiming for (and have said they're aiming for).
The Alchemist Subclass is more a supportive than a pure damage with healing and access to more acid like spells.
so far we have heard everything is core, seems unlikely we will get more than that just due to the huge amount of options in the core book
in the PnP yes there is alchemy crafting, and it seems like if the game has crafting it will have alchemy as part of it
no classes focus on it in the core book tho

I thought I remember them addressing crafting but I couldn't find it. I know its in one of the questions but it was part of a much larger question and I don't think Larian addressed it.
