dragon rider class, possible or no?
very unlikely I would assume but it would be awesome. Even with the level cap being 10 the dragon would still reach adulthood (according to the 5e wiki)

Sounds like the uncurated wiki infamous for being full of unbalanced homebrew nonsense. Wouldn't trust a single thing from there.

Considering that an adult dragon usually has a CR of over 10, that sound broken as all hell.
Gunslinger Mar 24, 2020 @ 12:38pm
seems unlikely

I'm ignorant in this, but does that apply for younger dragons too? Are they still too strong? This is what I was picturing so it wouldn't be too broken & ridiculous for BG. Please see this youtube video at 2:10. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuV3WB2xlFw

^ It would be like that where they can still be very easily killed, but they're never their full over-powered selves in the adventure. So then you can be a dragon rider depending on requirements, where you fly on a much smaller weaker creature.

The way Daenerys once rode on one before it got more huge & powerful.

Cannonizing a homebrew class is a HUGE thing when it comes to things like balance and in general any dragon would be pretty insane. Gith are red dragonriders so assuming a red dragon the lowest level red dragon is still a CR4 10d8+30(75 avg) HP and AC 17, a young is CR 10 17d10+85(178 avg) HP and 18 AC

These are insane for any character to have they are easily more powerful than Beastmaster Ranger a subclass that is all about having a pet

Maybe there will be a scene involving riding dragons but that is as much as you can hope for.

Thank you for educating me on that, I'm completely ignorant with all the stat numbers. I wanted to believe they wouldn't be so damn powerful even at their lowest forms. The only thing now I can see is a dragon baby, but it might be too silly if that's all it ever was. If that's the case I'd rather have familiars that can talk to you in the game like BG2 remember? ^_^

Well the OP may be talking about a dragon rider homebrew class that i found on the wiki. While its dragons are less powerful this class might be one of the most busted, and worst designed classes ive ever seen. Talking to animals will be a thing no doubt which is cool

Mind you, that's from Pathfinder so I have no idea if there's an equivalent in 5e.
Just posted those as an example, I suppose.

Now all there is to do is wait and see if they do it, because it is indeed possible now even if you don't start off with a Dragon.

Probably in the end chapters they can get you to ride one, and you get special bonuses for it. Yet either then that I can live with not riding one at all for most of the adventure. The OP should feel that is a great compromise for Larian to do, if they get the idea for it.

there is a good reason for them to not consider it,

simply there are more than a few classes that are current wizards DnD classes that will not be in the game, them adding homebrew classes seems unlikely to be accepted by wizards when there are other official ones they could add

the closest core class to this would be a beast master ranger, they get an Animal Companion, most are CR 1/4, black bear is a 1/2 CR and is the highest CR they get, the lowerest CR dragon (other than Pseudodragon which is CR 1/4 which i guess might be a ranger option but is still unlikely) is Brass Dragon Wyrmling and Copper Dragon Wyrmling both Medium size and both CR 1 so well over the CR rangers get and both really not ride-able by a Medium character

As a class feature? Probably not going to be in the cards. Pathfinder is 'balanced' completely differently from 5e.

As a story perk/boon? Maybe.

Dragon rider maybe, ain't gonna ride dragons though, sounds imbalanced.

Except it's not, there's multiplayer too.

Nope. Going to have to settle with Draconic Sorcerors or Dragonborn if you want to RP a Dragon.

I mean, in 5e there is a ranger subclass called the drakewarden thats all about having a friendly not-technically-a-dragon companion
You can ride it at later levels i think
Wouldn't count on that being in this game though
