Will we be able to import our BG2 save?
I know this would be crazy. It would also be amazing.

It would be awesome to see. The problem is that BG3 is using the 5E ruleset, not what BG1 & 2 used.

It would make no sense, since we are getting a whole new system and the BG1+2 system isn't really compatible. Much better to create a new character. :)

P.S. Even if it were possible, it would imply that events take place in the same lifespan, and I have a feeling they don't, what with those Spelljammer aircrafts and all. I think this is a new age, with the Mind Flayers trying to take over.

I don't believe you will be able to import it the way you do with BG1 and BG2, afterall it will be different engines. But I do believe that there is a good chance they will include an converter of sorts. You'll still have to choose how your character looks like, but as far as stats and maybe even items goes, I don't see why not.

As far as I know BG3 will be 200 years into the future from BG2, so lore wise you would only be able to use characters that doesn't age the same way humans do. Since all humans from BG2 would/should be dead. Minsc & Boo included. :'(

And if they wouldn't you can be sure that someone will make it. 100%.

no, this story unfolds much later.

I like the idea, but as noted above, it just would not make sense for save imports :)

Bg 2 is DnD second edition. This game will be Fifth edition. If they want to add importing only choices then maybe but character (Abdel) is imposible because of lore and gameplay.

ok ok, i get you nay sayers. New Rulset many yearslater yadda yadda. You are almost certainly not going to be the bhaaldpawn, but at the end of tob you had the option to become a god. So they could do it like mass effect and have some of your choices reflect into the world. Like if you were chaotic evil maybe people talk about how awful Bhaal is and murders keep happening. Or if you were a good alignment people will reflect that murder is much more rare and they feel safe.

I asked on their facebook page, long time ago and they said no, this story of BG3 unfolds hundreds of years later.

Thats is why i know that you cant.

What they might do is let you import your character and then it gets turned into an NPC. Not a companion, but the bases for an NPC that might or might not be hostile depending on alignment.

That's what I would do.

Of course not, Larian isn't dumb enough to ask for a savegame from a game that was released 20 years ago!

Seems kinda odd to have a continuation of your Bhaal Spawn story implied in the name but not include your Bhaal Spawn.

You can get it on about 10 different platforms these days. Would be neat to pull some decisions out of it. If it isn't tied to BG1&2 it seems kinda odd to even call it BG3.

Yeah you know like Final Fantasy where all 18 sequels tell one long story...
BG3 will probaly feature Bhaal and his spawn though I highly doubt they will be playable.

The bigger issue is that at the end of Baldur's Gate your character is basically a level 40 demigod. It would be impossible to make a good game that works well for both newly created level 1 characters and level 40 demigods.

Bhaal has been resurrected in the current DnD timeline, there are no more Bhaalspawn.

With all of his children dead, all of Bhaal's essence was freed, allowing for his resurrection. Bhaal was revived, and reclaimed the murder domain from Cyric.

There's literally no need to try and continue any story lines from 1 & 2 other than for nostalgia's sake.

No. Baldur's Gate 2 ended with you becoming a literal god. You have more important stuff to worry about than an illithid invasion.

The games are not canon.
