Baldur's Gate 3

Baldur's Gate 3

Please don't include wacky non-immersive things like chicken companions & annoying voice acting
I was unable to play a game recently in part because it provided on character creation ( ! ) the option of choosing a rabbit, a hare (also a rabbit), a chicken, etc as pick-able companions to add stats.

Who thought it was a good idea having a chicken follow you into battle? I can just picture the brave wizard with the clucking companion following him into battle, can't you? :steamfacepalm:

Please don't give in to the art-sey members of your dev team's instance of adding "Fun" devices into the game play. Crap like that rips the seriousness of facing death in battle away from a game. Most of us (I'd assume) want no *giggling* while we're trying to defeat evil.

I agree man. And whatever anyone here thinks. BG has an extremely dark tone and feeling. It also feels realistic even though it takes place in a fantasy world. Baldur's Gate have always been dark and even depressing at times, but its the realism in a fantasy world is what really made me like the game.

Divinity orignal sin has the feeling of a kids game, with jokes that feel over the top. Even the UI is cartoony. BG UI is dark and realistic.

Did you just describe a UI as realistic?

C'mon...

IF an ui has "wood", "stone" or other similar themes, well I do look at that as MORE realistic. It blends in with a house or a road etc. When an UI mimics real life backgrounds its not as immersion breaking. Look at icewind dale or poe and you will see what I mean. Feels more realistic because it tries to mimic realism.
An ui is never really a realistic feature in a game but I can feel that some can be immersion breaking or cartoonish. Like DOS ui.

The biggest thing is for the ui to blend into the aesthetic.

A realistic ui can be just as immersion breaking as a cartoony one. Consistency goes far.

Well of course it can. However since I think BG will try to be dark in tone then I hope they add similar UI to fit that.

Same! I hope they pull it off!
I just want a Imp companion and other creatures :steamsad:
I guess OP didnt really like BG 2 and throne of bhaal then ? Aside from the usual dark stuff theres plenty of comic relief among the adventures and party members in the games iirc. 2 of the the most memorable moment to me was that encounter with that spectator beholder guarding a chest and and the noob party that uses save scum against us when they discovered that we were way too op for them to take on and got slaughtered lol

and well if thats not enough here's a list of them from tvtropes XD. Some of them are pretty ridiculous.

Just call your character Thalantyr and take the chicken companion ! That's what a talented Conjurer need !

Winged Cats that speak to each other through a series of meows and purrs are a thing. Their language is called tressymspeak. This is canon.

They were also popular as familiars for good wizards

And according to this wiki. One such Tressym lives in Baldur's Gate, named Slobberchops. Again, this is canon according to Wizards of the Coast!

Winged Cats. That's not a "real" animal. This would make sense, its a type of race.
A talking squirrel or regular cat cat doesn't make sense. See the difference?

There is this thing called "Magic" you might want to look it up.

The squirrel wasn't made magic as far as I understood it. It was just a talking animal fit for a cartoon world with 0 explanation why. But if ONE cat talks out of hundreds because its, either a human transformed or a spelled cat well then it would make sense. Divinity likes to make things cartoony, while Baldur's Gate likes to create things out of the ordinary and explain it.
The talent "Pet Pal" were not only for magicians, it was for anyone. It's just lazy done, and feels unexplained, EVEN in a fantasy world. You could talk to animals because just because.

A talking cat is not my concern if its explained why, there's plenty of jokes and EXPLAINED similar things in BG and BG2. Larians boss "armored sven", the cartoon man is my concern, and what he envisions in HIS version of BG3. Where he thinks every grown man/woman is still a teenager in their mind, and thinks for example a dev video of "armored sven" would be fun or productive.

"Winged cat? Ok. Talking cat? We've gone too far!"

There is a thing of going to far. Thats exactly what it is. Thanks for making my point.

For example "Deadpool 2", a movie for underdeveloped brains, still stuck in their teens. Takes jokes too far and expects everyone to like it.

Some things just are not mature enough to be fun or interesting. Such as Larians cartoon vibe in everything they create. They create a certain teenager fanbase though, that's for sure.

Actually it's simply bad writing when things are not explained. Its important for even a fantasy game to be grounded in a form of reality. Larian is VERY bad at this, while Black Isle Studios were great at this. They made things feel mature and grounded, EVEN when making jokes. Jokes were even explained, such as the "Melicamp the Chicken", that was a mage. minsc their biggest "joke" in their game is explained as a head injury. It makes sense that he thinks his hamster is special.

I have no doubt that the older you get the more you will learn, how young in their mind larians devs really is, and thats who they mostly attract. DOS is not a game for a mature group I can tell you that.

as a mature person i enjoyed it, but i think most of your issues are gone, no need to explain anything in dnd a wizard did it is always the answer
