No Turn Based Combat
I think the industry is over saturated with turn based content. I enjoy my fair share of turn based games, and I have always been a fan of the DOS series despite being a hardcore gamer. I think the DOS games are excellent at achieving what they set out to accomplish. I even beat both of them on honour mode

But the issue is that BG should not be a casual game. I believe BG should remain the pinnacle of RPG gaming. I just want to voice my opinion as a fan of both styles saying that BG is not the place for turn based combat.

I wish Larian the best with making the game, and I am looking forward to it as long as it is not turn based, and we get to have a 6 person party. Please stay true to the previous BG games, and give the fans of BG what we so desperately want. I believe in you Larian!!!!

Edit: I would like to put this in the OP because I like to look at this picture, it gives me some hope for the future. It really helps me when I start to feel down from the complaints about people trying to change something so beautiful to fit their own personal agenda

When making BG3, I trully wish that they will respect the 3 in the equation. TB will massively change the gameplay. I play those games for the party of 6 management in a tasty RTwP mechanic.

BG3 is not BG at all without it's most fundamental piece, gameplay.

I've waited 20 years guys... I've even tried to find info regarding The Black Hound for more than a decade.

Honestly, if they can't respect the mechanics, I say: Call it whatever you want, but don't even try to call it BG.... Your wrong...

I agree with you for the most part. But why are you implying that turn based combat would turn it into a casual game? This is ironic considering the able top, that Baldurs Gate is based on, has been known to have pretty complex rules regarding burn based combat.

lol, Xmd. Please don't feed the troll. This guys says the same arguments again and again on every thread, and numerous time by pages, since days/weeks.
He thinks that if he's repeat the same things again and again, and even create new threads to write the same things he said already about two hundreds of time, even if he had almost two hundreds times the same answer from others you did to him, it could be true in the future.

The guy is on a crusade, he must think than if Larian read it 1000 times from the same guy, they will think there is 1000 different people who think this, and perhaps will do the game he wants.

Nothing to see here (nothing we didn't already read 200 times from him). Let the thread dying from his nice dead :)

I am only expressing my concern that the game is not turn based. I want it to continue to be a hardcore RPG franchise

It's already been stated to be turn based. It's following the 5e ruleset to the T.
That is one of the reasons they got the license--because they do turn based so well.

So either get over it or don't buy it I guess.

Also six person party does not work with turn based combat. It would literally take forever.
Just piecing together bits of info stated here and there by larian--it is 100% faithful to 5e ruleset.

5e is made for 3 - 5 players (guess what, 4 is right in the middle) and typical DnD is turn based (no surprise there). So I think the chances that we're going to have a 4 person party--turn based game are pretty high.

Temple of Elemental Evil with the Circle of 8 mod runs 3rd edition, you can set the max party size to 8, and there are battles where you have to face off against 10-12 enemies. It does take some time depending on your strategy, but a few good charges from your fighters and some luck, and it doesn't take too long.

Does it help you sleep at night to type that?

You could link your source, unless you lost track of it like your last source.

I can't even get past the first sentence with how wrong of a statement it is. Just gonna have to write off the rest as similar nonsense if you are going to open with that.

The company that is developing it, Larian Studios, will likely do it like they did Divinity OS and OS II, which is turn based. Given that this is also using D&D 5E rules I can almost guarantee that it will be turn based given the setting and Larian's track record in the last few games they have made. This is not confirmed by anything, but it makes sense with the company's history and source material.

That said I thought that Pathfinder Kingmaker would be turn based as well and it is not, so there is that.

You're probably right. And some interview vincke did, especially one they did in french makes me think about TB too. But it's not 100% sure. We will have to see when they will show gameplay footage (or make some interviews and speak about it).
