Let us import charecters from BG2 please :)
^
The title says it all.
I just started BG1 (EE) and i plan on importing my party (or some of it) to BG2 (EE) and it would be really cool, once i completed BG2, if i would be able to import them to BG3 :cozyspaceengineersc:

It would interfere with the story logically OP, 100 years passed since the end of BG2, the protagonist is resting in peace.

Won't be possible, likely, from what we know this game takes place 100 years after BG2.

Likewise in terms of more practical constraints, the code base of BG1 and 2 are quite old and currently maintained by Beamdog, a company wholly independent of Larian, so, sadly, there are a few legal and technological hurdles to jump through in order to make this happen beyond BG3's story being set in a time where the previous cast of characters are all pretty much dead.

If it were going to be a direct sequel, I'd love it if importing BG2 saves were possible. I hope this comment doesn't inadvertently spoil anything for you as you work on finishing BG2.

Unless Wizards of the Coast lets them make the game AD&D, it's has no chance to happen. Importing between editions is a mess, which is why originally you couldn't import from Baldur's Gate to Neverwinter Nights, despite them planning on having that ability.

The most you could realistically import is information on your Stronghold, but even some of those aren't particularly important to the happenings in the world at large, ones like the Bard one for example...

Yes, the game is approved by WotC, but I fully expect them to use 5th edition, not AD&D (a.k.a. 2nd edition)

ah yea, but things might be able to be converted, from 2nd ed to 5th, and some some gear pieces might be lost or replaced with gold ect.. i think thats how Dark Sun worked. Even if that was the same version of AD&D.
i second this request; mostly because i would like them to stict to 2.5 (3.5 at max) :)

Please let this happen. This was what the export button was for.

Having able to import characters will revive so much nostalgia and make the players's bond with the game, even stronger.

items and spells can be converted to current edition.

Chatacter import and export was one of the trademarks of Baldur's Gate. I strongly feel that this must happen.

Sorry to say. It's not. This is a new adventure. In canon, the main character from BG1 and 2 is dead. It's been 100 years since then. Some characters might still be alive, like the Elven ones. But not much are going to be around.

Plus continuing from a level 40 character? There is nowhere else for them to go. Throne of Bhaal was already stretching out the possibilities.

can spells and items be converted? alot of the spells are gone and the magic system has changed, same with magic items, and skills, and proficiencies, backgrounds and sub classes are new so you would need to pick them, looks seem unlikely to be 1 to 1, i guess name and alignment would be the same, wait alignment not shown any more so import name then?

I don't see the interest of importing character of ToB in BG3 as we will play a new char, starting lvl 1. But it may be interesting to import some decisions made for the lore/ information disclosed during discussion with PNJ.
People keep asking for this. But I have no idea how you would actually implement this.

First of all converting AD&D to 5e would be nearly impossible (You would literally be better off remaking the character from scratch!)

Second of all, you're asking this game to look at and extract data from a save file for a 20 year old game that Larian might not even have the ability (or the legal rights) to read.

Why don't you create the same characters? With the new ruleset of the 5th edition?
Like if your character was a fighter, then create a fighter and just pretend he was there 100 years ago.

See? You don't need Larian to find a solution you can figure it out yourself :steamhappy:.

You necro'd a thread from over a year ago that was dumb then and even more so now that we know more about BG3 a year later?

This, plus the new ruleset used isn't compatible with AD&D 2nd Edition.

I don't get why people are having such a hard time understanding these simple facts.

Besides, I really don't care about CRPG characters I created 20 years ago.

Sorry pal but BG2 come out like 20 years ago so there is zero chances of being able to import our saves into BG3
