telescope mission disappeared

I found the equatorial mount and he asked me to find the telescope but then the mission disappeared. Now I have the telescope but I cant put the two together for there isnt a place on the machine for it.

Maybe a dumb question, but have you put together the telescope itself with the relic machine? Once you do that the whole thing goes on the roof.

yes I put the equatorial mount together but there was nothing else to put together. I went several days and then decided to give Qi a spare mount as a gift and the very next day the mission showed up to get the telescope and then mount it.

The mount is only the first part of the quest line. You give the mount to Qi. (Additional ones are great gifts for him.) You get telescope in the second ruin after the bridge is complete. I think it's in the later half of the mines like the mount. Once you get all the telescope pieces, you put them together with the relic machine (it's really not explained well). Then you have to wait till about 20:00 (night time) and go to the roof to install the mount AND telescope (even though you gave the mount to Qi you still install it). If you try earlier in the day, you will get the message about waiting as Qi will want to use it right away.

I hope that makes sense and helps. It was super confusing for me too.
